Ctrl + Alt + Delete

For some reason, I cannot initiate the little application that permits u to close out of programs or restart your computer, i've even tried holding it for a minute or so and it did nothing!

I have restarted the pc a few times and to no luck...
I think this is just a recent thing starting today...... did defragging today with diskeeper and alot of uninstalling of some old games... and not sure if even was working before that....

anyone know a way to get to the app w/o ctrl + alt + delete or even a place to mess with the settings???

thanks for any advice,
Wayne

shift ctrl esc does not even open start menu (if thats what its designed for) .. .hmm

no they are both supposed to open the task manager just like ctrl+alt+del usually does. Definalty sounds like you've got something else going on.

You could also try using windows+r (or selecting run in the start menu) and writing taskmgr. That is also supposed to do the same thing.

have you scanned for viruses?

If your comp's frozen there isn't really anything you can do but to restart. If I were you I would restart in Safe mode then scan for virus's.

seems like i got a worm... and i found a way to accept task manager... once i task manager i had pinpointed the problem area that prevented me from opening task manager the usual ways and set it not to open upon start up. I think that the worm is contained within this file also, and i can't seem to delete the file that contains the worm. the worm is "deleted" with ad-aware SE but if the program is run then it returns, of course. gonna try a dos mode attempt at deleting the file or something with safe mode, idk.!

thanks for all your help though

turned it off somehow and was able to access, then ran ad-aware and found a worm...

ran several other things to try to get rid of winupdate (housed the worm) then finally got rid of it with several different programs mmmhmm man do i feel good now lol...
