adware help

So my browser is acting up on my 2200. I go to different search engines, ie yahoo and google, and when I put in a query, all I get for results are crap sites, practically all 'buying' sites, ZERO actual results. I click on images, zero results, same for every other category. What do I have and how do I remove it. Already have mcafee internet security and adaware and did full scans. deleted all cookies, history etc, reset web settings... what else can I do? anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance..

well, you could try spybot search and destroy, sometimes it catches things that adaware misses

Probably been said a million times on various other threads but i recommend Mozilla Firefox, far more powerful and user friendly than IE.

Get it here:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Sounds like you have some form of spyware. is your adaware upto date? Possibly try other spyware programs, such as spybot or the microsoft one. I personally use Spybot.

Thanks. Gonna try those programs now. Thanks for reminding me about Firefox again. It's been a while since I owned a computer

Go d/l the Microsoft Antispyware Tool. Although it is a beta prog I have had great results with it. I run it on my computer, as well as on client computers on the job. Another free one is Stinger from McAfee, http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.asp

Good luck!!

It has better security, and viruses/etc that are written for MS IE (which most are) normally don't affect firefox. Also, the plugins/extensions that you can get for Firefox are great!

all right guys, starting to get the hammer fist because of this: very irritated. Anyone know what can cause a browsers results to be altered?? I'm about to reinstall IE. I just got Firefox, but the thought in the back of my mind is killing me.

Synergism
When you do a search on google or yahoo do the results show up on a google/yahoo page or are you being redirected to a different page?

Try System Restore.

Many times when I couldn't get rid of some spywares using Adaware, Spybot , CWShredder or others, system restore did it.

Or check out the following link for more info about spywares:

I would have to agree. Spyware can alter your registry to redirect web pages to shopping and gambling sites. These changes cannot be detected by spyware seach programs. Sometimes (on very rare occassions!) spyware actually offers you the add remove functionality in the control panel, so possibly hunt around in there to see what has been installed. Unistalling them should remove their registry entries - however if you have removed them already by the likes of spybot then you will be unable to uninstall them now.

A system restore to when it was working may fix this...

Thats really weird!! Never seem something like that before.

Your browser has been hijacked. This can be fixed - but you have to know what to do. Start by finding and downloading 'hijackthis' . Its a small program, maybe 500kb or something.after you download it close everything that is open (ie all explorer windows and internet explorer windows) and also close all the programs that you have running in the backgroung. Then run 'hijackthis' . This will show you all the startup processes (where you might find more spyware software installed) and all of the BHOs that have been installed on your system. The BHOs are the browser hijacks...check each one of them and click 'fix selected' - they should clean out and once you restart your computer you should be done.

Oh, and since you can't find hijackthis...go here.

I got crap like that all the time on IE, then I got Firefox.

Hope this fixes stuff. Let me know. And in the future, use Firefox.

Take care.

I better note that down as another reason to use firefox over IE..... that now makes it a million + 1
