Folks - what say you re the new Nvidia drivers. Safe to install on my Sager 9860?

GeForce GO 6800

I installed on my 9860 using the modified INF file from laptopvideo2go. Increased my 3dMark05 score by 300 points. Haven't run into any problems yet. I've read the 76.50 driver was supposed to have a heat bug but I haven't seen any change in temperatures between the 77.72 and 76.50.

Flats - thanks for posting ... I'm confused though; you specify in your post an *.inf file ...

May I ask, why the necessity of substituting in that *.inf file vs whatever it is the *.inf file is that comes with this new driver?

I appreciate your reply.

THe modified .inf with the driver is made specifically for laptops, and also is supposed to be better in general. I used them on my 9860, and they help a little, but I am currently using the XTreme G drivers. They are not better for performance, but better for eye candy. They are way better than the stock drivers. Graphically anyways.

found the modifield laptop inf file for the 77.72 Nvidia driver

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=7379

er... scroll down when you get to that link and look for "Pieter's mobile INF modified for v77.72"

or .. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...ndex=0&mid=117

I just extracted that inf file from the zip file and

1. uninstalled nvidia through control panel add/remove programs
2. rebooted
3. ran the nvidia executable to install the 77.72 driver
4. got an error message that the installation process couldn't find the correct inf file (or words to that effect)
5. copied the extracted Pieter's file from another folder into the nvidia folder that was created by the nvidia installation routine
6. went into that folder and ran the setup.exe file
7. manually chose Pieter's inf file
8. got joy!

verified, upon reboot, that driver version was 77.72

Hey Flats ...

Well, I'm not really sure, so I guess the answer is no. However, let me be more detailed:

1. the only applications I'm using, so far, on my Sager 9860, is Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Publisher, Front Page, Power Point). I'm not doing, yet, any high intesity gaming.

2. I don't have nor know how to get any benchmarking software to where I took measurements before and after.

HOWEVER, it seems, and I repeat "SEEMS" as if my laptop is running cooler. It just doesn't feel as warm as it did before.

I had read somewhere that the 76.50 driver had some sort of bug that was a heat problem. True or not, I can't say, but I can share my "perceptions" that this system is running cooler.

I tried installing that software temperature utility written about in these forums, but I didn't know how to complete the blanks (it was asking specific questions about processor etc that I didn't know how to answer). So again, with this, I don't have any objective pre and post installation measurements to share.

Hope this answers your questions.

I've got the same performance as the 76.50. Much better than 71.89
