will pc3200 ram work in a 600m?

i got my sister a 600m for her birthday and ordered it with 256mb.

My plan is this:

take one of my 256mb cards out of my 9100 and put it in hers, and replace it with a 1gb stick.

So the question is, will the 400mhz memory lower to 333mhz?

I think it could work as long as the type of ram is the same...its kinda like downclocking the ram...I could be wrong...but I think it should work...anyone?

Not sure what kind of slots the 600M has. If they are 200 pin SODIMMS they should work.

As far as the speed goes, dunno. But if the 600M motherboard is clocked to 333 for the memory, then I would not expect it to increase when you add faster RAM. Operating under the assumption that you are only as fast as your slowest component.

Thanks guys.

I did some searching for a 1gb stick for my 9100, and it seems that most pc3200 ram is pc3200, pc2700, and pc2something compatible

^^^ Yep, absolutely it will be compatible. It will of course clock down to the speed of the memory already installed, but it is otherwise fully compatible.
