Longhorn

Thread Starter
After reading much about the HP zv6000, I ran across many threads pertaining to it. Among these, I found that many people arecomplaining that the zv6000 (and many other HP laptops) doesn't run the way it should under the new 64-bit Windows. I was curious if the new version of Windows, codenamed "Longhorn", will likely support this laptop (in 64-bit). After all, it does house a 64-bit processor! Any comments?

LH should support the zv6000 but in the requirements area, you may be out of luck, last i heard the requirements were way up there...

The problem with 64 bit is that many component makers have not yet released 64 bit capable drivers. This is the case with any 64 bit based laptop & desktops(less affected due to parts being more standard).

With Longhorn, it should run pretty well. Specifications wise it is quite acceptable.

The problem is not with the laptop not being able to run the OS's but with the suppoort & drivers needed to run them properly.

I thought DX9 was the minimum/ standard requirement to use all of bells and whistles of the GUI.

You are right. You have to have atleast a DX9 compatible card to run Longhorn.

The company i work for as an IT Manager is a M$ Partener so we recive lots of information before most people get it as well as beta versions of products... However we havent gotten a beta of LH yet ...

Anyways i remember reading that there will be 2 main GUI's 1 for people with DX10 cards which will be really nice and have everything... the 2ed GUI is for people with DX9 cards... That GUI will have less features...

i think in Longhorn, if i remember correctly, there will be a DX9 mode called aeroglass, and a DX7 mode called....something else.
And there might be a "classic windows" mode too...i forget.
