I have till school starts at the end of August to decide between the two. I'd love to have that new Ferrari 4000, but it's too expensive and it's generally not a good idea to take a Ferrari to college, whether it's the car or the laptop.
its not a more powerful video card, it is in the same class...it is simply more Direct3D optimized which the majority of todays games are Direct3D so therefore it pulls slightly a head in benchmarks...so there should be no heating issues. Even if there was heating problems they could always make it slightly heavier and put a real heat sink on it with copper contacts instead of the crap they use on the Z71V...i dont even know what that thigns made out of but it looks like pressed aluminum or something. They used a real copper heatsink on the CPU to keep it cool and stable...but video cards run hotter under load and they give it a crap shared heatsink with the chipset, and a tiny low rpm fan.

Rick
is it possible for you to post the spec sheet?

Gah, if only I could afford to wait till the end of July.

Im very happy with my 71V. Yes the 70V has a nicer screen, and yes it will have a nicer graphics card. But if everyone waits long enough, they will have the go 7800 in a puter the size of the dell 700m. I COULD have waited, but I wanted to play HL2 now I'm happy with my choice. More power to the people who wait forever

Wow.... stick the x700 and bluetooth in that sucker and it's my perfect lappy
post #27 of 244
So does that mean we'll see a price drop on the z71v in the next month?

Not sure. mostlikly... That or they just wont sell any
post #29 of 244
the z70v with bluetooth and x700 wont' be cheap
that'll be at least 250+ the original price
but that means u can still get a fullly speced system below 2k..
nice screen, nice sound, nice build, nice GPU, newest sonoma technology, bluetooth.. how can u ask 4 more?
and i doubted you...

any idea if any of the other spec will be changed to accommodate for the larger card?
But still no SATA
If this is true, I might have to abandon my plans on hanging onto the upcoming HW1's coattails This is very cool news.

And really? No SATA?

a more intresting note is it possible for current z70v to upgrade their cards, which I highly think is possible if Asus do plan to release the x700.

Apparently Asus has made the Z7xV series to allow the GPU to be taken out, but not to be upgraded, just to be repaired/replaced (which they do themselves inhouse, not the user/owner).

I will track you down and stab you if this proves to be false!!

hopes++
waiting...
Before everyone gets too excited, we should remember something Rick said: everything at this point is TENTATIVE. When Asus ships demo units out, then we'll know for sure. Until then, take everything with a grain of salt. (although it does sound really great if it's true )

This is wat I was implying. Send it back and request a new graphic card module. Wouldn't this be more logical. I guess time will tell if our hopes come true.
Well, my z70v is coming in tomorrow.... wah. But that's okay, because I wouldn't have been able to afford it and I will still be able to play my shiny new copy of HL2.

They are not in the form of modules, at least not in a form that most people would recognize. By new I mean the exact same GPU but not as old, time-wise. So no upgrade.
