i8600 Question/Problem

Just received my Inspiron 8600 -- initial impressions are it's a great machine.

Something has me irked though, there are 2 sets of mouse buttons. (Upper set made to use with the joystick mouse, lower set for the touchpad).

What I'm noticing is the left button on the upper set, can be difficult to activate. Ie: I have to push harder, or even a few times extra to get it to work properly. Have any other 8600 owners noticed this?

This link is connected to a post on the forums here, about how someone changed their m60 keyboard to be less clicky, but I don't believe it's the same problem as I'm seeing. I _can send this back to them to have it looked at, but it's something I'd like to avoid if I could.

So, any 8600 owners noticing anything similar? The right button is fine, it's just the left.

I have the Dell D800, which is the same basic laptop as the 8600 and your problem is actually a normal one. The two buttons that are supposed to go with the pointer stick are definitely harder to push. This is because they don't have a specific "click" to them, but rather they are pressure sensitive. Thus, you need to press harder to activate them.

So, no you don't have a rare problem, but rather a problem which is quite common (and indeed I believe all 8500's, 8600's, M60's and D800's have this problem).

I hope that helped.

It does help yes.. at least it's a problem across the board and not specific to my machine. On the other hand it doesn't help me to fix it =)

Is there some way to disable the pressure sensitivity? I can't actually understand why a mouse button would -be- pressure sensitive, but we can't change that.

Something else I'd like to look at, if you notice the pics in my original post (link), bigjim removed the cover plate from on top of the keyboard. Now I sat down and unscrewed mine, but can't seem to remove the entire cover...

(I did send him email, but if someone else can help out that'd be great.)
