Small Form Factor PC

Anyone ever build their own Small Form Factor PC?

I'm wondering if it's possible to make one of them little boxes with a single 7800GTX Nvidia in it, with like a single optical drive and hard disk.

Anyone got any ideas for me?

Nice little thing to carry from friend's to friend's, using a monitor here at home and TV out at their house. Of course not as friendly as a laptop - would need to take keyboard and mouse, I could use their TV For speakers.

Gents? Comments?

Listen. A case is just something that looks nice and hold the parts in place.

You can make your own aslong as your stuff fits. Shouldnt be a problem.

Yeh - but I never seen one of these cases and the marketing pictures aren't good. I was hoping someone on here built one and would be able to answer questions. Like - I don't see how a CPU Fan Fits heh!

This needs to be moved to Desktops and Other Technology forum. Small Form is Nice but you can build a full tower and use a harness to move it around. A harness has a pouch to hold a keyboard, mouse, and extra wires, etc. Well, there is probaby a harness for SFFs too. Check out the configuration pages of a company that sells SFF systems, like Voodoo. To get an idea of configurations.

asus espresso is one SFF, Kloss has one, too, and i'm sure shuttle does

I think Shuttle said something about SLI in a SFF, so I think a single 7800GTX would fit fine.

Piece it together at www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com It should work.

The only problem might be keeping it cool. You can't fit a bunch of fans in those small cases, the 6800 runs hot, I'm sure the 7800 will be hotter yet. But it should be wide enough to fit inside. Those smaller form factor Mother Boards don't have ALL the options like the larger ATX sizes.

cooling is really the only issue (after you make sure you have the right chipset)

The video card + hard drive + cpu can generate some major heat, and some SFF systems do not handle it well.

I like the Kloss i915 box because it separates the CPU from the hard drive, and the heat is handled very well. I'm sure the Shuttle boxes are pretty good at this, too.
