HELP!!!! CRISIS!!!!

I got my laptop back from the shop two days ago to fix the USB problem I was having. Now, I can't turn it on!!!!

I was using it on the bus today, shut it down normally and everything. I stuck it in the bag. Then I got back home, and I'm trying to turn it on. It seems to go on, but the screen remains black and I can't hear the hard drives spin up! HELP! What do I do??? I can't afford to send this thing back to Sager!!!

Hmmmmmm Another one?

What is going on?! The aliens are taking over

Open it up and check your keyboard connection to the mobo.

Often, Sager screws this up when doing service work (well, I've noticed 2 or 3 posts regarding such).

Refer to your manual or search these forums for how to break-down the machine and get to the connector. Above all else: BE CAREFUL. If you are not so technically inclined, stick with re-RMA'ing it.

Sager should know better (i.e. TEST the repaird equipment prior to sending it out; not just turn it on once and power down at POST or whatever).

Sorry for your freak-out jamesshuang. That's such a general symptom its difficult to suggest anything other than standard unknown glitch protocol.

First unplug and then remove battery. Check battery (is it a "smart" one?), then replace it, making sure connections are good, check any other connections you can, and then try to boot up.

If no go, then connect AC and try booting again. If no go, try removing battery and booting up on AC alone.

If still no go, check the primary hard drive, make sure its seated properly. Maybe remove it and reseat it. While its out, give is a very gentle roll over and very mild shake. Any funny noises you don't want to hear? If no problems discovered, firmly reseat the HDD.

Give the whole machine a gentle roll over, mild shake. Any obviously not appropriate rattles or clanks?

If still no go, and you don't want to contact SAGER or PCTorque, and you are determined, crack the case open and check all the connections you can. If possibe, get a copy of the service manual from CLEVO and then keep all the screws in nice little labelled cups. Look it over to see if there are any loose connections. After properly destatiking yourself, check all the connections you can for good seating. Reassemble the case and give it a whirl.

If no good, well, you have exhausted the possibilities you can do without serious training and equipment. Time to talk to SAGER and get ready for RMAing it. I know that's not what you want to hear, but that's all that's left, that I know of anyway.

Hope this helps. Good luck. I sacrifice many bananas for your benefit.

Would a loose keyboard wire cause the hard drive to not turn on? In any case, I just checked and the keyboard wire seems to be in good order. The laptop was working perfectly in the two days prior to this incident. What is going on here???!?!?!

Ok, what's really annoying is Sager put on this little "void if removed" sticker on one of the screw holes for opening the case, so I can't even open this thing to see if there's anything wrong.... Ok, now I'm really freaked out... I went around begging for money to get it fixed the last time, I have NO money to send it out a SECOND time!

Unfortunately, it seems the SAGER Tech squad has not been on the ball lately when it comes to taking that little extra effort that might avoid a bigger problem later on down the line.

It's not a good omen. I hope they will take notice and as the monkey said to the bird, "straighten up and fly right".

Ok, Does anyone know how to insert a ribbon cable correctly? I spy a white one that may have become loose, but I can't seeem to be able to insert it correctly...
Insert that ribbon cable VERY CAREFULLY. Typically, it's only a friction connection (aren't they all?) - whereby you simply insert tab-A into slot-B kind of a deal.

Gently grab both sides, smoothly rocking side-to-side until it slides in. Don't forget to pray - that never hurts.

Ok, I figured that out, but that white wire didn't to anything... More searches!

Oh god, I'm quivering with fear... I don't know what's wrong... I got just about every openable part of the laptop open already. I can't see anything other than that white ribbon cable under the keyboard (which appears to be for the audio DJ) that could potentiall become loose. If it weren't for that damned sticker they put on my laptop, it would be all open now, and I could possibly see what's wrong... Adam, or anyone, what should I do? I want to open the entire thing up, but I'm afriad they'll void my warrently if I break it. Help me!

james, you may have to email PCTorque directly or try PM. There's a lot of threads and they also are running a business so its possible they may not see this thread.

So fire off an email ASAP. Wouldn't hurt to send one to SAGER as well but I'd suggest you give the folks at PCT a chance first.

Yeah, I've already emailed Sager about it, but their time difference makes it weird so that they won't be getting the email for a while. I think I'll have to email PCTorque about this one as well. I'm beginning to think that this is a loose wire somewhere, since the AudioDJ function still works, but when the power's on, none of the drives work but the CPU operates since the fans come on after a while. I guess I'll have to see...

Did you try and reset the bios? Remove the battery and AC power, then hold the power button down for 30 secs. Put everything back and see if it boots.

Yes, I have tried resetting the bios. I've actually gone as far as taking out the actual battery beneath the keyboard, and disconnecting all sources of power to the laptop in trying to reset it. Any other suggestions?

Hook up an external monitor and try booting it. See if anything shows on the external display.

What LEDs are showing? Are the fans kicking on and is it posting?

I don't think it's POSTing at all. It comes on, and usually I can hear the hard drives spinning up. Now, I just hear what's essentially silence. Just the Green Power LED is on; nothing else shows any sign of life. After a while, the fans kick in, which leads me to believe that the CPU is ok. The CDROM doesn't recieve power, as pushing the eject button doesn't do anything. However, the CDRom does work when I use the AudioDJ function. In fact, the AudioDJ function works flawlessly.

You're going to have to call Sager tomorrow because it's something they will have to get to work on. Outside of checking the RAM and CPU there's not much else to try if you're sure you have power and it's not posting after resetting the bios.

Oh man, I'm screwed... I needed the laptop for school, and now it's broken less than 3 days after I got it back from them! My parents are already wringing me out for buying this "POS" (they paid for half), and yelling at me for wasting so much time on the thing... Now I'm REALLY screwed...

I already emailed sager about it this afternoon, and I hope Sager will cover the cost of shipping this time, I mean, it's broken less than 3 days after recieving from them!

Keep us posted James, I have an 8890 too, and am starting to think perhaps I should have a second cheap computer to use in case this happens to me. What really scares me though is that I'll be at sea for 2 months without much access to a lot of help.
