iBook LCD repair

A Mac-addict friend of mine may be acquiring an older G3 iBook and is supposed to be selling it for his father, the problem with it is the screen.

From his explanation the back portion of the LCD (the reflective stuff for the backlights) is peeling up, and has created a black spot in the top left corner.

My question, is it possible to disassemble the screen and perhaps re-adhere the portion to the backing? or will this require a new screen?

This is what I'm curious about, if I can repair the screen, I'm guessing I'd get a very discounted price on it (about 300 dollars US), but if I'll have to pay for the new screen, I don't know if I'm interested.

Any input? thanks.

if it's down to that kind of manual intervention, why not just try it and see if it will work? if it doesn't here are some links...

the cheapest i could find for just the LCD is ~$250 (the 1st link. the site also gives install instructions). personally i think some electrical tape (or better suited material) might be a bit cheaper.

My guess is the material used, if I give it a try, would be required to deal with mass amounts of heat. I don't know how hot the backlights get in the iBook, but in the Vaio I have, WHOO BOY!

Anyway, it's supposed to be shipped for sale by my friend in August, and as long as I remember, I'll resurrect this thread and throw in some pics of the process (I'm thinking that's a good enough reason for ressurection)
