First I want to say that I am very impressed with my new 6000D.
Secondly, I feel extremely fortunate to have had a great transaction using E-bay. I have purchased a few things from e-bay before but nothing close to this in value…
What I ended up getting was a Brand new sealed i6000D with:
Pentium M 730 1.60 GHz
15.4 WSXGA
64MB DDR ATI X300
512 MB 400MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 2 Dimms
40GB Ultra ATA Hard
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
2 Year Warranty
XP Home SP2
I paid $830 for it. I think it was a pretty decent deal and it was configured very close to what I was looking for. I already have a “free” 60GB Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM’s coming in next week from my cousin, so the 40GB HD was not a concern. I will be upgrading the Ram to 1 GB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 2 Dimms very soon… I’m hoping Dell will have an upgrade option for the Video Card in the future, so for now the X300 will have to do… I wanted to get a better External DVD Burner anyway, so the CD Burner/DVD option was perfect for me. And I already had XP Pro ready to install so XP Home was no concern as well…
I also had reservations about the white trim but was pleasantly surprised that it looked good! In my opinion, it does not look tacky at all… It is actually very classy looking, one of the best looking laptops I have seen!... Bear in mind that I have exclusively used nothing but IBM lappies for years…
And anyone debating on which screen to choose between WXGA and WSXGA should save their time and brain cells and just go with WSXGA. I am actually going through eye problems now and have no problem viewing everything on a WSXGA screen at 96DPI. It looks awesome and in my opinion, is the perfect resolution for a 15.4 widescreen.
I will post a full review (even though there are quite a few already) after I have it for a while. But I will say that I am very glad that I went this route. I almost pulled the trigger on a used IBM T30 without a warranty for around $700 just because my work laptop was stolen. Then my brother had a co-worker selling an Inspiron 8100 that looked like it had too many miles on it. But that got me thinking about other Manufacturer options other than IBM. 3 solid weeks of research and finding this message board led me to what I believe is the “Best Bang for the Buck” available today.
I must admit that I was very nervous about this E-Bay transaction, but was relieved when this lappie arrived “EXACTLY As described!!! I guess there are still a few honest E-bayers out there...
