does every brand of laptop have the same palm rest fade problem?

i noticed on almost every laptop i've ever used (all dells, hehe) that after a while, there are like dark marks on the surface of the laptop of where my palm rests when i type. is this because dell uses cheap parts or does this happen to every laptop company out there?

It's due to the corrosive nature of human sweat and body soil. You might try something along the lines of a notebook skin over the palm rest area.

I don't know, I've heard of this a lot but still don't see any discoloration on my year old d600's palm rest. I don't game though. Maybe you're just a sweaty bastard?

I've used my IBM laptop for 3 years and I have never noticed it; actually I wouldn't have even thought of this if I didn't see this topic.

*checks for marks* Nope.

EDIT: Can anyone take a picture of it to show?

It's not BS...You could wipe down the palmrest afterwards.

Not hot enough to melt plastic, otherwise the plastic covering the cable would have melted, too. I've spent a summer in Indian Wells Ca, so I know heat

Do you wash your car? Do you clean or wipe down your tools? Would you want a surgeon to use washed/autoclaved surgical tools when they operate? Or just reuse them on the next patient as is?

It would help...

Muhaha,

Thanks.

But, what palm rest fade really means is that it is time to buy another notebook.

I just had my palm rest replace by Dell due to the coating on the mouse pad coming off. It looks like a new machine now!

I had the tech leave on the protector that comes on the palm rest and will be using that until they come off. At that point I'll go to Office Depot or somewhere like that to see if I can find something clear to stick on over the palm rest. So the real question becomes what has adheasive that doesn't become a problem over time with having a problem getting it off after use.
