By using "max battery", setting everything to low power, disabling unused devices, and with undervolted CPU and lowering DVD rpm to 2X, I just for the sake of the experiment played a DVD film continuosly for 3 hours. (To be accurate it was 2 hours 57 minutes). This with a 6 cell battery. Under the same condition a 9 cell battery would give 4,5 hours, of course. Earlier I did the same experiment wilth "mixed use" and got 3 hours and 10 minutes.
As I said it was an experiment, and to actually view the film half-way comfortably I had put out most of the lights in the room, and compensate for the low backlight setting by increasing light and contrast somewhat in the Nvidia menu. I also did not view full screen, but all in all it could be used this way during a long air trip, say. I still could have removed one of the memory chips, and earned a couple of minutes, I suppose...
(before re-charging the battery, I always see that it is emptied to the point that the machine get into stand-by. then I charge it to max without interrrupting. but I have no idea if this has any effect)
