Asus A6Va (aka Asus Z70V with Radeon X700 GPU) I THINK

Thread Starter
I just ordered Asus A6Va (aka Asus Z70V with Radeon X700 GPU I THINK) with the following spec:

Model: Asus A6Va-Q016H
CPU: Intel Pentium M 740 1,73 GHz
Operatring System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Memory: 512 MB PC3200/400 DDR2 soDimm
Display: 15.4"
Resolution: 1280 x 800 pixels
GPU:ATi Mobility X700
Video RAM: 128 MB
Hard Drive: 80 GB 4200 rpm

All of the above for the price of 1,037 Euro = 1,254 USD

I ordered my notebook here:

http://www.computerpirates.com/

For more specification detail of this notebook you can go to Asus site here:

http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?m...5&l2=24&l3=193

This notebook is exactly what I am looking for with great slick design of Asus Z70V, but with better GPU being Radeon X700, built in bluetooth, build in camera. What more could I want? Maybe SATA port for hard drive? But it's alright, I can live with PATA.

I forgot to mention that the price I paid for also came with 8x DVD burner

Only WXGA though

Its not in USA yet, right?

It also has a camera

wtf, it has an underbite and beveled edge (yuck)...

looks like they grafted parts of Z71 (bevel & roundedness) and V6 (buttons & keyboard area) onto the M6 chassis...

Why did they make another A series, argh..

I want Z series -- no camera, second battery option, configurable, and M6/V6 style heritage (no ****ing edge bevel, and certainly no underbite), dammit!

it's like they give you what you want, but then take away something else that you want

[I had hoped ASUS would redeem themselves from the faux pas that was the Z71 chassis]

I dont think it's in the Z70v family. But good luck with the WXGA screen- I have an HP with that, it's pretty sickening when it comes to movies. The Z70v comes with WSXGA+.

I may be wrong, but isnt the max for a laptop DVD burner at 6x? On the spec sheet link says that the max is 4x. I think the website that you bought it from may have had a misprint/mis-decifer.

Also, I looked at the zoom up, and no it's not a Z70v, I does look nice. A tad smaller because no speakers in the display panel, but it does look a little more bulkier than the Z70v.

15.1" XGA/SXGA+ & 15.4" WXGA (1280*800) / WSXGA+ (1680*1050)
It lists WSXGA in the spec sheet.

Yeah, on the official ASUS site listing. But I wonder why computerpirates.com only carries WXGA? I wonder when we can start seeing this on US shores

Look at the pictures. The A6Va is NOT the Z70V. The Z70V was supposed to be the same chassis as the M6NBe series. This chassis is more similar to their AMD series.

Hi,
what kind of battery life do you get out of your A6VA? (gameing, DVD, office)

I have bought one of these about 3 months ago from Taiwan. Definitely not a Z70Va but a cheaper alternative. Great laptop. Watchout for the frying motherboard. I was warned and I had it happen. The new motherboards apparently fix the problem. I am very happy with it. I changed the wifi card upgraded to 2gigs and put a 7200rpm HD in it. I am getting 3:45minutes with withOffice applications and surfing.

Right. The A6Va is part of the A6 series...NOT the M6 (Z70) series.
It's kind of like a cheaper model...but still very good in its own sense. I believe the A3 and A6 series are geared more towards the "average professional"...who likes to have everything built-in (e.g webcam) whereas the M6/Z70 is for the higher end user for more demanding work.
