Need some opinions....im debating between the HP DV1240 and the Toshiba M50...I'm using it mainly for school...they both have all the specs that I need and are both 1799, so it comes down to which brand is stronger...dont know which one to go with..wat u guys think?

Um...niether. Try a Dell, or maybe even IBM. IBM is supposed to be the strongest laptop that a lot of people know about. The Dell will be the best bang for your buck. Configure a Dell, and compare the price to the Toshiba and the HP. You should be pleasantly surprised. The IBM may be expensive.

well i disagree with freak4dell i say get the m50 out of the two that you named it will be the stronger of the two. as for dell it will be hit and miss for quality but toshiba will not. IBM will be the absolute pinnacle of quality, however that comes at a price namely the huge extra $$$ that they cost over the competition.

If they meet the specs you need I'm sure either one will do you just fine. Personally I would go with the Toshiba. BTW are those canadian dollars? I thought both of those laptops were supposed to be just over $1000US

dell is sh!t...i have no respect for that company or the junk they produce...and yeah they are canadian dollars...but if you said they are about 1000US i may as well order from a US site since the canadian dollar is currently destroying the US....guess there werent any HP fans out there...ill probably end up with the toshiba...thanks guys

really? how come?! the only difference is the RAM...i think the HP has an extra 512 and also a lightscribe DVD burner....but i'm just concerned over the quality

I just don't like Toshiba. I've never owned one, but I have used one, and I really don't like it. I've used HPs before, too, and I didn't like them as much as I like Sony, IBM, or Dell, but they're okay. Generally, I don't like computers that can be bought at Wal-Mart, but apparently, that's not a good reason. I basically got attacked last time I said that. Now, I would take a Toshiba over a Compaq. I really don't like Compaq.

Anyway, if the HP is the same price, but it offers more RAM, go with the HP. I think they are around the same in quality, so it really doesn't matter. You need as much RAM as you can afford.

i would say that toshiba is the way to go with it, freak4dell does not like toshiba for some reason that has yet to fully come out. i do think that toshiba has higher quality than hp and alot of people here will say the same. feel free to ask some questions in the toshiba section and i am sure that you will find a very helpful crowd there who can help you with any questions about toshiba.

Just look at his name, "Freak4Dell." I think that alone says that he really likes Dell a lot. ;D

I do like Dell a lot, but that doesn't mean it's the only company I like. I just like Dell because they have quality systems for cheap. If IBM or Sony could lower their prices, I'd probably have to change my screen name.

How about Fujitsu? They have some of the best screens in the market and good support. Look in www.portableone.com

I don't have much experience with those, but something about a company that makes film making other products doesn't seem right. It's like when Kodak started making printers for their cameras. I don't even think they should have started making digital cameras.

yeah fujitsu is rather questionable...

I've heard the screens are good, and that's to be expected, but the system in general brings suspicion to my mind.
