Just been playing san an for an hour with no probs. Full res everything at max.
It gets a bit warm but not uncomfortable and no lockups/outs freezs etc.
Again the screen!!!! I still can't belive how good it is. Not blurring on fast moving sceens bright and crustal clear. Will give it a some more testing when I can dig out my copy of HL2. V V pleased with my new toy.

I reckon it's a bit too early to say, but it seems fine

Anyone have a dead pixel? What is FS policy regarding that?

There's a great program that helps the discovery of dead pixels. It's called "Dead pixel buddy" (strange name, huh? ). Simple yet efficient program. Hope you don't find any

FS's policy with dead pixels, I think, is that if you have a group of dead pixels, then you can have the screen replaced. However, the store you purchase it from may have extra policies about that (return policy).

The amount must be 4 dead pixels and/or 5 subpixels (in Sweden, acc to ISO-standard). It think its NOT very generous.

Yep, they go by ISO 13406-2/ class II but it depends on the screen resolution
Look here

Does the 3438 come preinstalled with windows or is the HD completely empty? This is important to me because I plan installing Win Pro rather than Home
post #206 of 579
Here in the netherlands do they come with XP Home preinstalled.
It comes with XP Home, but you can install XP Pro on it. You may need to have either a USB floppy drive (if it'll work), or a modified XP disc to actually do it though, as the SATA drives are not supported by default with the setup.

Edit:

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I have ordered the 3438 now, so I'm expecting it either Friday, or early next week.
Unfortunately, I haven't ever tried installing a Pro over Home. I guess it could be done with the repair option, huh?

Guess I'll be using google to learn how to make a modified XP disc

Check this out, it can be a little complicated though:

Also, check for a program called nLite, as that can strip down an XP disc and also add drivers etc.
Tried nLite, great program indeed

I am a little worried about the warranty though... Will it be void if I format the HD and put XP Pro on it?

Nope. But you could be a criminal if you dont own a license to XP Pro
post #212 of 579
Nope it's not voiting your warranty, but it's smart to restore the HDD when the laptop needs to be returned. That is what i would do.
Agreed.

One more thing. I've heard that InstantOn runs on some kind of Linux. Will it be deleted while formatting the HD?
nLite allows you to modify an existing XP cd, not create them

I don't think formatting the HD will void the warranty at all, I think it's only hardware stuff (and bios flashes) that do that.

As for the InstantOn, I think it gets deleted during the format, but I'm not certain. It might be embedded in to the system itself, but somehow I find that doubtful. Either way, on the Fujitsu-Siemens website there's a download for the InstantOn stuff, so I assume if it is erased, it can be put back.
Well, it created an .iso image which I then put on CD via Nero.

Thanx for the info
I don't think it's getting removed, it's installed on an othert partion i think. I you leave that partion alone, InstantOn won't be removed.
Thet brings me to my second question- how many partitions are there on the HD right out of the box? I personally have 4 on my desktop.
What sort of temps does the laptop run at, and how noisy is it?

What sort of real-world running time can you get out of it (with the stock 8-cell battery), too?

Lastly, is the CPU manually upgradeable, or is it soldered into the mainboard? If it isn't soldered, anyone know if the chipset is single-core Yonah-ready?

Thanks

Ok, I'm here to post about a yet another strange behaviour that I've observed on my M3438G to cool off the frenzy around the lappy here... you were all waiting for me anyway, right?

It seems that my lappy thaws out from the standby -mode itself without any reason, I put it into standby and come looking after some time only to find the windows open with my username waiting to be pressed to get back into action...

Does anyone have any clues about what's up with this??
