Review Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M4438G - Page 12

Something's up with your laptop

No idea what's causing it, but just a thought, try disabling the touchpad before you leave it in standby. I'm assuming that the touchpad stays disabled until you press the button again.

Yeah, I think we can declare that cat's out of the bag already

The touchpad has BEEN disabled when this has happened though, and I'm sure no one has touched the comp while I've been away...
Well, at least there are no dead pixels on the screen..

Fujitsu-Siemens support is gonna get an E-mail from me...
I hope mine's ok when I get it *crosses fingers*
post #224 of 579
Actually, another thought. Try going through the list of hardware devices, go to the properties and check whether they are enabled to bring the laptop out of standby.

If you find their email address, please let me know it as I have a few technical questions..

Thanks.

PS > Do you know what temps it's running at? SiSoft Sandra Lite (free shareware version) would be able to tell you more. http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.ht...se&langx=en&a=

Also, do you or any other M3438G owners know if the CPU is soldered into the mainboard, or is it manually replaceable if needed at a later date?

Cheers
Well, that shouldn't be too hard to find, should it?

@RuptuReD - have you contacted FS support yet? Your lappy has some very disturbing issues- heat as the worst. Best if you contact FS ASAP

@G-force thank you for the link. Those are some great photos of the 3438 and the screen iz absolutely amazing

Hi everybody.
I can get the M3438 with 17' WXGA/pm2.13Ghz/2Gb/2x80GbRaid0/6800 256Mb for just 1500 euros from Germany I have read the whole 16 pages of posts - wow that was sth I have a great question considering the heating problem.
Can the m3438/4438 users posts their temps - want to see the avarage
My toshiba is getting pretty hot but it is p4 In my opinion it is the perfect laptop havever overheating disqualifies it completaly!!!
Thanks in advance

I think this pic (one that was in the link G-Force gave) kinda answers you question Kieran:

No idea about the average heat yet though, since I haven't got the laptop yet.

Thread Starter
Hmm. After 1,5 months on my M4438G I have some dead pixels on my screen. One quarter from the left and about half-height I have a bunch sticking together or if its glowing, I dont know (I think glowing). Very annoying. And one very, very small dead one top right corner. Completely out of sight. I have sent it to service a few days ago. And they are replacing it. They are just waiting for spare parts. Not too many broken then, when no screens in stock (Two of my friends with same notebook have not had any problems with dead pixels).
So, I believe that maybe the 4 dead pixels warranty can be discussed with Fujitsu. And they can replace screen when dead pixels are very annoying. I Could not stop looking at it when using notebook.

Nice that you found here MastaMarek

Kieran, you live in UK, right? I don't, but I looked the Fujitsu-Siemens pages for UK just to answer you... I couldn't find a E-mail address there though, but the numbers you can call are here: http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/support/helpdesk.html (not that hard to find really )

I thought I'd let you guys know that apparently the shutdowns I've had originate from Windows... I changed the settings so that windows doesn't immediately shut itself down when there's a critical error... and vóila!! A Blue screen of Death instead (don't really know whether that's any better though )

And no, I haven't contacted F-S just yet, I will though, about the overheating... (I seem to really love using word "though", BTW )

1.86Ghz vs 2.0Ghz

Hello all M3438-4438 Funs

I have 2 questions to ask:

1. How big is the difference between a Pentium 1.86Ghz and a 2.0Ghz.
If you had to choose between PM 1.86Ghz + 2x80GB HDD and PM 2.0Ghz + 2x60GB HDD what would you chose?

2. Is it possible to order the laptop from the UK online store of fs using a visa or other internet card if you live outside the UK but tell them to send it to a UK address?
Erm... 140 Mhz ? (ok, that wasn't funny)

I'd prolly go with the 2 Ghz if they cost about the same... I don't know though... I have the 1.86 Ghz with 2x80 gig HDD, BTW

What else... Oh yes, Hi!
Well, my laptop came today, earlier than I expected

Just wondering though, if I put a straight ruler just below the bottom of the keyboard, it dips. Is that a curvy design, or a problem?
Well, ain't that a pleasant surprise

I don't know what you're suggesting but surely that's not a problem
post #235 of 579
Well it's not a problem as such, but unless it's in design, it's still a defect.

Do u have any heating problems??? Tell us your reactions
post #237 of 579
Heating seems to be fine. Yes, it gets very warm on the right side of the touchpad, but that doesn't bother me. The GPU reports its temperature to be 63C. I've ran 3DMark05 on it, and it still seems fine. I haven't checked the GPU temp after a 3DMark05 test though, but I'll do that after I get XP Pro installed (which on a reassuring note, recognises a USB Floppy disk drive to install the SATA stuff with).
Great! Looks like I'll be buying that USB FDD after all Thanx a lot Snowman

Yep, you should definitely stress the CPU and GPU to test the temperature/heating. Prime 95 wouldn't be a bad idea too...

That little curve you've mentioned- I've looked at some photos and it really looks like a small dent though I'm not completely sure. Someone should verify this.

Good luck with your lappy
I think that the second HDD is a killer for this lappy!!! The 2 HDD is located just next to the gpu!!!! 2xHDD means 2xTemps!!!! Does anybody with m3438/4438 and only one hdd can post their temps on gpu plz
