I've tried XP pro, XP pro SP1 & XP pro SP2 setups from the CD..
I use the F6 prompt to load the drivers you mentioned off the floppy. This works ok- it finally sees my HDDs, i then select which partition to use for windows and it asks me for the 'Via Combo Driver disk'. I have the floppy i used earlier in the drive and press enter. Nothing happens, it still wants the floppy with the drivers on even though it is still in the drive (and it worked earlier).

The only Windows installation that doesn't ask for that damned 'Via Combo Driver disk' - is the F-S windows Xp Home recovery cd... And if I try to upgrade this Home edition to Professional - the same problem appears!

Help!

BTW, do you guys get the SpeedFan to give out the temp for both HDs, I only get it to show the temp for the first one (I know most don't have 2 HDs, but those who have). When I wrote this, the program showed 47 celsius as the temp for the first HD, if anyone is interested...
I started a new thread for temps etc. "http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=102091". Now it's nice and easy when looking for heating information

btw, I use EVEREST to see temps, its a great program imo.

Lualyrr, I didn't get that problem at all. It worked flawlessly for me.

Riva Tuner has a nice hardware monitor too (GPU, Ambient...). It can also be used to unlock all the pixel pipelines and vertex processors (it was successful with my desktop 6800) resulting in better performance. Anyone care to try?
I'll try it out.
Mind you, it might not work... The chances of actually damaging your card are, however, minimal. If any problems occur, you can revert to factory settings. I'm not sure if the newest drivers are supported though...

Hi to All!

you did it - I'm going to buy a 17" Fujitsu-Siemens!
Thanks for the great thread.

Has anyone yet been able to buy the M4438 in Germany?

I know the disadvantages of 1920x1200, but Dell is using this resolution in their XPS gaming notebooks as well, so it can't be that bad.
And I've seen the Sony Vaio with WUXGA display in action - simply amazing!
If the M4438 is nearly as good as the Sony, I'll take it.

I've made a modified XP pro CD integrated with drivers and i finally have it running.

Strange Species, what usb drivers are you using?
The normal XP ones I think, either that or any that came on the FS driver CD.
The reason i asked is coz if i plug the usb mouse or floppy in, the laptop freezes.. Though both of them have worked before the format in windows, and both still work in linux..
I think i've got all the latest drivers installed.. any ideas?
I had that problem. I did solve it though, and I think this was the solution (in order):
a) Install XP
b) Install SP1
c) Install SP2
d) Install Fujitsu-Siemens drivers from the CD

I think you can probably skip SP1 if you've got SP2 already, but if you do have it, I recommend installing that first anyway. I remember installing the FS drivers before the service packs, and it did not like that. I had to do a reformat/install again.

If you made that XP CD with drivers include the service packs, try without integrating the service packs. Write both SP1 and SP2 to a CD ready to be installed.
I've got the Xp pro SP1 cd with integrated sata raid drivers (I don't want the SP2 installed). So the SP1 was installed in the beginning and right after that - the F-S drivers..

Maybe the problem is that the SP2 is required?
It could be, but if you can, try a non-integrated XP pro CD (but still with the drivers). Why exactly don't you want SP2?
1) sp2 firewall must die
2) i've allways had a lot of hardware/software problems after installing Sp2. so SP1 is enough for me

So, my friend's 4 lil' questions about M4438.
- Can we add internal BlueTooth anyhow?
- Will we be able to update CPU to Yonah?
- Any updates of this model soon?
- Did MCE edition of M4438G is able to run instant on, and have original pilot also? (classic MCE pilot and Express Card one)
- internal, no. external, yes.
- no idea
- not that I'm aware of, although you've got many different types of this model
- no idea

AFAIK

"The chip will be paired with a chipset, called Calistoga, and a Wi-Fi module, called Golan, that will receive and send 802.11a, b and g. Later versions will come with 802.11n, the so-called MIMO technology. Wimax will start to be added in notebooks as an option around 2007, a spokesman said."

So probably no Yonah in out Dothan notebooks

yeah, if anyone knows how to add internal bluetooth that would make a great laptop perfect... no bluetooth expresscards on the market as of yet and my search for a bluetooth sd card thats flush with the case is drawing blanks too (

USB dongle is your best bet. Some are really tiny

Strange Species, you were right! Thanks again
SP2 is not needed, XP pro->sp1->F-S drivers = usb devices work great
