Review Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M4438G - Page 21

Not sure about the no audio device stuff. I remember having to run the FS driver detection a few times. The first time, it detected several devices ready to install. After that, I restarted, ran the setup again, and there were a few other devices detected. I assume this is because some things need to be set up first.

If you haven't already done so, I recommend trying to do another driver detection with the driver CD. That may be the cause. If not, try and explain in more detail.

*edit*

This thread is getting long, isn't it?

I've ran this driver detection for a couple of times, it shows "You have all the latest drivers from cd/dvd installed".
But hardware detection keeps founding a new device all the time- PCI device. and can't find any drivers for it. What exactly is this unknown PCI device? can you tell me which drivers do you have installed for it? Maybe this is the problem..

I wanna fix this "no audio device" problem and finally enjoy my notebook

P.S. have you installed any dvivers from this F-S dvd manually? or downloaded from the internet?

thanks for the suggestion but i have a fairly small usb dongle at the moment (d-link dbt120) and its still begging to be snapped off :-p. i guess i'll have to wait for expresscards to take off. oh and whilst i remember, just to let people know, the remote control is stored in the expresscard slot so itd need to be removed should you want to add things (like tv cards) in the future..

It still has ways to go for the 3161 pages (at the moment) on the "The Reputation Experimentation Thread", so I wouldn't be too worried yet...

Infosyncworld posted a small review of the M4438...

Finally, the site has been down a heck of a lot today. Here's my full driver list (which I intended to post at around 6 hours ago ):

I used the driver DVD btw.

Thanx a lot! after looking at your list I decided to install SP2 after all, coz I had a couple of drivers missing.. and you know what? That was the problem!
Now the system is running flawlessly! Finally

The review at Infosync was good. Unfortunately it got a lower score due to lcd's 25ms response time. Even though the spec say 25ms they cant have tested it for one bit. We all know that 25ms can be great playing with on some lcd's, and on others not even qlose to possible. On the 4438G the 25ms works great in FPS (and also in lower resolutions then dekstop standard)
But the bad scores for Instant-on was completely true.

What's wrong with Instant-On?

Everything
Cant boot with 2 partitions. Cant use my films on harddrive. To few options for proper tv-out. Works like a dvd-player, but problem is I already have 2 dvd-players and they are better.

That's strange.. I can watch movies from my CDs/DVDs and my both HDDs without any problems.. the same with the pictures and music.

Hi Lualyrr; do you have freezes watching divx movies?; I have a micro-freeze each 4-5 minutes and coincide with a fan blown (I assume perhaps in my cause is due overheat)

Dou you capture video via firewire? I don't have raid, and lose a lot of photograms even with the disk completely defragmented and all second plane threads closed. Perhaps raid 0 correct this.

This are my only two complains and I doubt about return it.

Thanks

I've tried almost all of video formats except for DiVx.
I'll find smthng and check then

Haven't tried capturing video either.. I don't have raid btw)

PCMCIA cards compatible with ExpressCard slot

I'm about to get me hands on my 3438 (2.0Ghz, 120HD) and was wondering if I can use PCMCIA card with the expresscard slot. I seem to remember reading somewhere in this thread that the cards where pin compatible, although this doesn’t necessarily mean the card will work (drivers probably need to be updated). Has anyone else any experience with this issue.

Also, I understand that the hard drives aren’t set up in Raid0 mode out of the box, apparently they’re set up as two independent hard disks. I just wanted to know what it takes to set the drives as Raid0. do you just need to make the change in the BIOS or do you have to do a bios change and a reinstall of XP.

at least for the first part of the question you cannot use pcmcia in the expresscard slot as its a different shape (and smaller) although in theory youd be able to run a pcmcia device through the slot if you could resize/shape the device and setup the new connections correctly although this is pretty unfeasable (would someone else care to confirm?)

I've just watched Divx movie- no freezing, no complaints

I'll have to see if InstantOn works on my machine again then, since now I've got 3 partitions on 1 HDD. Also, there's a new version of InstantOn out on the FS website. It's called 'InstantOn 3in1', and I'm going to try that out ASAP. This one is about twice the file size (92MB).

chichopf1, I know this might not be your problem as I had those microfreezes more often when watching DivX videos on Winamp, but in my case they were gone when I locked the CPU speed down to "Max Performance" with either SpeedSwitchXP or RMclock (or with Centrino Hardware Control, but I haven't personally tested that yet).

It seems that at least Winamp (the version I have, if not any others) isn't all that good in taking the CPU speed it needs to play DivX videos smoothly.

Try what I suggested and see whether anything happens, BTW, what software are you using to play the videos?

I haven't installed InstantON on my M4438G (becouse I'm trying to get x86//Tiger working on it), but could you check, did InstantON can display subtitles for DivX movies?
