Thread Starter
Fins a proper moderator here http://www.notebookforums.com/showgroups.php? and send him/her a PM.

Yep, was thinking the same thing! I was scratching my head where to post threads/replies.

Amilo's, for one, are seemingly very popular, too.

Will PM the Mod. But which Mod? there's so many.....

I sent mine to Enderet, as he looks like a general notebook Mod, and have asked him to pass it on if there are more pertinent mods/admins.
I've PMed an admin on the matter (as far as I know, mods can't add categories).

If Asus and Compaq have their own sections, why not F-S as well?

Just tell me where to sign...

Ok, Craig is going to 'bring this up to the powers that be'

Hopefully we'll have a new forum category within a few days.

Has anyone downloaded the InstantOn 3in1 from the Fujitu-Siemens update page? Also, in your opinion is it worth it to update the BIOS and the chipset?

I've only updated the Forceware from the Fujitsu-Siemens download page and am now downloading that InstantOn update. I've heard that you shouldn't update the BIOS unless you really now what you are doing and unless there's something wrong witht the current BIOS. What about the Intel chipset update?
I've got InstantOn 3in1, don't know what the difference is though. I updated the BIOS too (NOTE: Do not update through windows, do it using a bootable CD. It certainly made me panic when it said that flashing failed). I've done the chipset update too, I think (the one where it's meant to update .inf files, or something), but have not noticed a difference.

On a different note, does anyone's Cyberlink PowerDVD CD/DVD have a serial number on it? I noticed there's activation within the program, but my CD sleeve does not have a S/N on it (Nero on the otherhand, does).

@Strange Species have you bought 533Mhz memory or 400? I've heard that those of 533 have some really slow timings... What's a better choice in the end?

I've got 2 x 1Gb 533Mhz DDR2.. WHAT slow timings are you talking about?
My machine is heavy loaded, but unbelievably fast

Lualyrr, are you based in the UK or USA or elsewhere?

If you're in the UK, where did you get the 2.13GHz version from?

Thanks
@StrangeSpecies: ¿What BIOS update did you use?, there are 1.06c and 1.06RC versions. I would imagine RC stands for "release candidate" but their dates are posterior to the "c" versions.

On another subject: as I understand the Pentium-M Dothan core should be compatible with the No-Execute bit thing, yet Windows tells me my computer is not compatible with hardware DEP. ¿Has anybody activated it succesfully?.
I used the 1.06C update (I think that's the only one in CD form). When I tried the RC version in Windows, the BIOS flashing failed half-way through erasing it. That made me panic. Fortunately, it was still operational after reboot. If you want to flash it, save yourself the risk and don't use the Windows version, just in case.

As for RAM, I've purchased a single 1GB 533MHz chip, and it should be arriving today, so I don't know of the performance difference (if any) yet. I will be using my 256MB 400MHz chip with the other, so there shouldn't be a jump in performance other than when the system needs RAM.

On another note, Lualyrr, your laptop sounds damn nice. Must've cost a lot.
@Strange Species: I am not 100% sure but I think if you put two memory chips together with different operation frequencies then the system will automatically operate at the frequency of the slowest chip. If this is true that means you don't have to spend your money for 533 MHz because you will not be able to use them at this frequency.
The thing is, I intend to upgrade to 2x 1GB chips in maybe a year's time (or less), when the prices have gone down. That means I'll only have to pay for one later, and it'll be at the right speed. I don't mind 400MHz at the moment. I can also sell my 256MB module for more now than I can later.

I'm located in Latvia(europe), it's a small baltic country
And there was only 1 place where the 2.13 chip was available..kinda took me a while to find it

Strange Species, yepp it wasn't cheap ~2400 $
but I luv it
And thanx again for your help

It's been a while since anyone has posted any benchmarks. I'd be very interested to hear what scores did you guys get. My scores were:

3DMARK05: 3679 (I did get 3687 before but the most recent run gave me 3679)
PCMARK05: 3016
Aquamark3: 54,073

My system: M3438G (PM750, 2x1GB (Kingston 533MHz), 2x80Gt, WinXP Home)

I was told to post here instead of using the other thread I started, by Ruptured so here goes...

Hi this is my first post, so I am not sure if it is appropriate for me to post this here. But basically I am from the UK and about to start University in September and am interested in the 3438G model with the following specs:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Fuji...8/version-1.asp

However this site no longer stocks this model, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar site which stocks this model for a similar price? Obviously I would prefer to pay as less as possible as I am going to University.

Also could someone tell me if the RAM makes too much difference as I have seen some sites clock it as 400mhz and others at 533?

And again if possible can someone tell me whether the model on the site I have pasted above is actually running the 400 or 533? The site doesn't actually mention whether it is DDR2 memory as well, so do I just assume it is DDR2 memory?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this thread; as this is going to be my first laptop, so I want to make it a good one. I want one which is capable of running the newest games without hesitation, running dvds, word processing, mp3s, etc.

I'd run another benchmark now with my new RAM installed, but at the moment my system is compressing 120GB of my external hard drive using the NTFS compression. It's about 70% done, and has been going for a few hours. Says 1 day and 19 hours remaining. Something tells me it'll be done within 2 hours from now. Stupid Windows...
The laptop RAM will probably be 400MHz, that's what mine was, and I think most peoples' here are that too (before changing it). It'd be DDR2. No idea where you can get them from now. PC World is out of stock I think. Check www.pcwb.com though (I think that was the PC World business site).

Wow, were on the Main Forum index page on a own Fujitsu section...

That didn't take too much time...
Were are all the posters though?? This calls for some kind of celebration...

Any ideas what witty and funny stuff we do to honor this occasion?
