I have installed and used the new USB 2.0 drivers on my 5660 running Windows XP SP1. The driver is newer (7/8/2002 on the driver date as compared to 6/5/2002 for the old one) and digitally signed by Microsoft WHQL but they still don't install using the setup utility. I had to extract the files out of the msusb_xp.cab file and then force the driver update. The new driver is listed as being from VIA where as the other one was listed as being from Microsoft. I have not noticed any difference with the new drivers yet (performance or functionality) but I have not done much with the USB except for mouse and keyboard. Everything still works and I was able to borrow a USB 2.0 external hard drive and it seemed to function correctly but I didn’t do much testing except to copy some files back and forth before I had to give it back. As far as the BIOS update goes I have not seen an update for my 5660 yet, but it has been my experience that when a company releases a BIOS update there is usually a good reason for it. (but not always, need to see the release notes on it describing the changes made if they have any notes for the update) A good rule of thumb is if you don’t know what the new one fixes and your not having any problems then don’t update, but that does really take the excitement out of life. If you want to live on the edge then just do it.
