I have 512mb stick of ddr2 400 pc3200 ram in my inspiron 6000 right now. Do I want to spend $57 on another stick of 512 or do I want to go for a 1gb for $103? I don't know if having 1512mb of ram would be a waste and if 1gb would just be fine. I use it for school and internet and sometimes when I can....gaming.

and wow...i just found out my 80gb hdd that came with this is only 4200 rpms...that sucks..i've been wondering why my comp loads up so slowly and opens things slowly. i need to upgrade to 5400. Theres none that go faster are there? I didnt see any on newegg

For gaming the 1 gig of ram would be beneficial. Anything over 1 gig is a waste of money.

umm, speak for yourself buddy.. i benifit tremendously from my 2gig of ram..maybe for what he wants, 1gig will be fine, but some of us have to actually use intensive software that thrives on ram i.e. photoshop cs, design studio, etc.. just my .02cents

I sometimes use photoshop cs...but not enough to really merit buying 2 gigs of ram. I may want to swap out a stick later in the future if it isnt enough...but my desktop is usually my gaming system.

like said, 1gig is usually enough for most situations..i was just making a point that the "buying more than 1gig is a waste of money" statement was not so true.. thats all i was saying bro.

It might be worth it. It will be better in the future.

"just my .02cents"
Only 1.98 more cents to go until you get your 2 cents in.

.02 cents is correct isn't correct.....what is correct is:

$0.02

or 2cents....

.02 is two one hundredths of 1 cent

I meant the RAM might be worth it and it might be better for the future.

Well, I see people have already corrected the cents thing, so I won't say anything further.

Tummy Pony is right about ram and gaming.

There have been a few 7200 rpm hard drives released. For now, you might want to reformat your current hard drive and install only necessary programs, to try to speed things up. Once the 7200 rpm drives become cheaper, buy one of those.... unless your really want a 5400.
