Sorry, I'm afraid I dont know mcuh about vegas... All my experiance is with Adobe Premier, which does not split clips... to tell the truth splitting video is a bad idea, you should generally work your in/out points manually to ensure proper sequencing, yeah its a pain, but you ALWAYS get what you desire when you do it yourself. If you get a chance try AVID DV for another vid editing program, if you feel like living dangerous.

Try this option. I hope this helps. Good Luck & tell me if it worked for you.
Capture a clip from a DV device
Connect your camcorder to your capture card. Turn on the camcorder in VTR mode and start the Video Capture application.
Select the Capture tab to set Video Capture to Capture mode.
From the Video menu, choose the device from which you want to capture video.
Use the transport controls to locate the beginning of the scene that you want to capture.
If Video Capture does not have device control of your camcorder, press the Play button on the camcorder.
From the Transport menu, choose Capture, followed by Capture Video, to begin capturing video. You camcorder automatically begins playing, and Video Capture begins capturing.
Click the Stop button (or press Esc) to end the capture procedure. The Capture Complete dialog is displayed.
Video Capture will create multiple files if it detects scene changes or when the operating system file size limit is reached (4 GB under FAT32 disks).
Use the Capture Complete dialog to view information about the captured video or delete or rename the captured clips. Click the Show Clips button to display a thumbnail view of each clip.
Clear the Show after every video capture session check box if you want to bypass the Capture Complete dialog in the future.
Click Done to return to the main Video Capture window.
