ECS G600 Laptop

I just happened upon this great looking laptop...the ECS G600.

Manufacturer link: http://www.ecsusa.com/products/600.cfm

iBuyPower is sellin' it as the Battalion 101 G600

http://www.ibuypower.com/mall/notebook.asp

It looks decent. Got the ATI X700 video card with 256MB!!!
The newer centrino chips with 533 bus, DDR 400 memory, 15.4 widescreen, less then 1 1/4 in thick, about 6.6 lbs., built-in TV with remote.

If only someone here can buy one & post a review...

Wow I saw that a few months ago on their website, but they listed it as only a WXGA screen. This slight improvement has made it a formidible opponent against a lot of current laptops, especially the Z70/71V series. I guess we'll have to see how it turns out

Anyone have one of these, I really like how this laptop looks.

I'd like to know how the keyboard is.

There has been no change, it's still WXGA.

Yeah, I think iBuyPower made a mistake because on the specifications & on the ECS company, it's WXGA (1280 x 800). WSXGA would be 1920 x 1050, I think.

However, personally, I think 1280x800 is much easier on the eyes than 1920x1050, unless you're into to graphics or video editing, the higher resolution is more useful.

And yes, this is the same ECS company that makes mobos. The build looks solid & sleek, although looks can be deceiving. Hardware is topnotch too...well, it seems that way. Pricing is great too, you can get one with Pentium M 2GHz 533\1GB DDR400\80GB 5400RPM\8x Dual Format DVD±R/±RW\ATI x700 256MB for about $1710.95 (5% instant discount & Shipping included) . That's a great deal for a laptop with these specs. I'm just curious to it's performance and whether or not it's full of bugs & glitches...

Please, if you've got money & time to spare, feelin' adventurous, and are willing to be the noble sacrificial lamb for the greater good of others, I urge you to get this lappy now and put up a review .

Just for the curious, I've got an Acer Ferrari 3200, AMD64 2800+ chip, 1GB DDR400 RAM\Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM HD\ATI Radeon 9700 w 128MB. It's a bit flashy & attracts way too much attention. So I'm on the lookout for other lappies with the same performance in a less flashy shell.

ATM I've got my eyes on these lappies:
1. Acer Travelmate 8104
2. ECS G600
3. Acer Ferrari 4000 <---a bit too flashy again
4. Uniwill 259IA3 <---friend has one, a bit dull & too many bugs

My budget is around $2000. If anyone here knows of a better choice, let me know.

ECS makes crappy notebooks too.

My experience with their notebooks are huge failure rates and impossible RMA service.

I would only recommend an ECS notebook if you can find a reputable reseller who will honor the warranty up front, rather than wait for ECS to respond.

EDIT - its too bad too. Cause its a good looking notebook with decent specs. Not sure what to expect for price though - I've seen some ECS shells priced really well, and other priced WAY higher than they were worth.

ECS sucks, i REALLY dont recommend them

Diviktory: yeah get the Z71v or the M6V, you can configure it how ever you want

ECS pulled one amazing motherboard design (K7S5A) out of their hindquarters back in the day which won a few awards and put the company on the map. Since then I don't think they have produced a product worth stealing let along paying actual money for.

From my experience they are like playing the lottery...your odds of getting a "winner" are about the same.

It's kind of hit-and-miss with ECS. I have an ECS K7SEM with a factory O/C'd CPU that has lasted me for almost 2 and a half years now. However, it is a replacement for an identical motherboard that died on the first day (the shop I bought it from honoured the DOA warranty on-site).

Basically, if you can get a product of theirs that works, it seems to work well. To bad the "working rate" seems to be only as good as the "failure rate".

Man! ...just when i was decided to get the sager 3880 this thing comes along...I'm still a bit wary of ecs though...come on guys any word on its build quality? The vendor was trying to sell me the g556 but it really sucked...the ecs logo wasn't even glued on straight..hope that the 600 isn't the same?

They were probably hoping it would fall off. That alone would increase the value by about $100.....

can't comment too much on the notebook.. but as a motherboard.. they're kinda like Ford cars.. very hit or miss.. my friend had two of the same board.. one failed within a short time, the replacement has lasted pretty long..

however for a notebook of that spec.. it's a VERY good price! it's also pretty damn good looking.. too bad ECS in general, is questionable quality..

Yeah, been readin' up on that ridiculously long thread about the Asus z70v Refresh. Hmm...it's got my attention now . I guess I'll wait until it actually comes out, a month later. It's not even on the Asus site at the moment...

Please do "try it out"! Think of the masses of curious folks out there counting on you to bring ECS600 Truth to them.
