I really want to check out one of these beasts before I buy. Does anybody live near Princeton NJ that would not mind if I checked out their 8890 and/or 5680 machine?

It would be greatly appreciated.

There is no spoon....

OK, let's stop with the movie quotes. Besides, if dundee had done that in NY, they'd have shot his punk ass for even thinking about it.

That plus corny humor make for a volitile solution (as far as useless posts go).

i like the simpsonds posts ....

anyway, I hate to say this but although I live just south of princeton, I do not meet people over the internet. You can get an idea of the size of these because i believe aussie did a cd to laptop comparison. No doubt they are big machines, but I would not hold my breath waiting for someone to volunteer to meet up with me. Best bet would be to look closely at the pics. Good luck.

Jeeze,

The way you say it sounds like this would be a date - lol.

I have read every post and looked at every picture that I can in these forums.

The main reason I want to see one of these is person, is because I am a software developer and I really want to check out the screen for readability. I need to see for myself the resolution and size of fonts and such, something a picture or words can not adequately convey (at least to me).

I am will to me anybody in a public place, a library or even the local police station.

Dell has set up a mini kiosk at a local mall and I am going to take a look at that. But I am really leaning towards Sager, just need that eyes-on look to solidify my choice.

Mark are you looking at the SXGA or the UXGA screen?
I have the SXGA and there is no comparison to the Dell. The SXGA simply blows the Dell ultra sharps out of the water. The closest screen to the SXGA in terms of sharpness, viewing angle etc etc is the Samsung 191T LCD monitor. If you can get to see one of those it will give you an excellent idea of the quality in the 8890 as they are very similar (even to viewing area).

As I don't have the UXGA I have no direct comparison although I believe the Toshiba CASV UXGA screen on their latest Satellite Pro series is close to the Sager's UXGA.

Personally I would go the SXGA, I program and for a balance of screen area to readability the SXGA is ideal. UXGA will give you more screen area but you may find reading it a bit hard. Depends on your eyesight. Also if you are like me, I tend to sit back and contemplate my code as I write it, so the SXGA is still readable down to the nuances of a ; vs : and 1 vs l and O vs 0. If you are a programmer you will know what I mean (those pesky little typos ).

Either way you will appreciate the speed of the Sager when compiling (get a RAID 0 setup ).

Steve,

Thanks for responding. BTW, I think have read all of your posts, they are always very informative

I am definitely leaning towards the SXGA screen. From everything I have read on here, I think the UXGA will have too tiny of a font. I am getting up there in age and am already starting to squint to see my existing screen. The extra real estate would be nice, but I would rather have something that is easy on my eyes. As it is, I already sit in front of this computer way too much!

I will look for some of those laptops that you mentioned, but I was really hoping to see the 8890 in person.

That's exactly what I want. The laptop back a little on the table, me relaxing on the sofa, and still being able to see everything without leaning forward or getting out my binoculars.
