I am about to receive my W5A soon. Can anyone tell me if the bluetooth is v1.1 or V1.2? And also is it true that I can replace the 256mb ram with 1gb ram?

Thanks,
Clement

I recently bought a W5A. The first one died after 3 days and was returned as DOA. It just kept bluescreening and rebooting continually. Attempt a full re-install from the recovery CDs had the same problem.

I got handballed around betweem 4 different companies in the supply/service chain before and it took 2 weeks to get a replacement. I feel this is not good enough for DOA, it should be replaced immediately.

I've now had the new one for 3 weeks. I treat it very carefully, and always put it into the supplied neoprene sleeve and then into the laptop bag when transporting. Already the outside screen printing has worn off the cover. It seems so poor that in fact i was able to simply rub the remaining part off just with my finger. Did anyone do a durability test before production????

So far I've had a few strange crashes on this new one. Once it froze and I got a pink screen. Had to remove the battery to shutdown.

Other times the screen goes off while in use. The system seems to be running still, I was able to finish typing an email blind and send it. But the screen doesn't come back and you need to reset. I have my suspicions that it's caused by overheating when charging and using at the same time.

As for putting in more RAM, the other day I added a Corsair 1 gig stick DDR2 and it's fine. My W5A already had 512 Meg standard, so now 1.5 Gig RAM.

I'd be interested to hear from others if they've had similar problems. Especially the screen printing coming off so soon.

Apart from that I like this laptop. If you are a guy and have the white model, be prepared for girls to approach you and strike up a conversation about it.. I already had this happen to me.

Just curious, how much ram does it come with in default configuration? Also is there an extended battery for the notebook? What size of HD does it use? 1.8" or 2.5"? Thanks!

are you able to get that 1.3MP camera to take 1.3MP pictures?

I have a brand new Asus Z83V. I can only get my 1.3MP built in cam to take 640x480 pictures. Ive tried Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard, twain driver with Scansoft Paperport, netmeeting, logitech IM Video companion, etc.

Only 640x480.

Please Help

I've just received my w5a and i've plugged into my viewsonic 21.8 LCD screen but i can't change the resolution to 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 the video card is a 915GM, i've tried all the way and when i've reintaled the intel driver ir only works on 256 collors.
It is possible that this machine does not work with this resolution?????????

Displaying Higher resolutions

Sarrafo,

I had the same problem when I got my W5 (back in May) . . . I thought Asus would have fixed this by now. Anyway, here's what I did, and I can now run a 1920X1080 screen even:

Download the latest BIOS from ASUS, load this first.
Download the latest Graphics Chipset driver (dated 11/2005) from Intel (not ASUS's site), and load this.

After that, you should be good. I run a 1280X1024 monitor at work every day.
