Painting Prices jumped huge money ?? - Page 2

payments= your credit card!

I wish PCT would of never offered the paintjobs, its just been a huge headache and loss of money for a Quality company that was just trying to give the fans something they wanted bad..

Adam sorry this has been such a can or worms for ya

I agree whole-heartedly! However, this is not simple paint. A base coat, sanding, high-quality paint, then a clear-coat? Not to mention how many of each coat... ome on, that is not "simple paint" like one would do to a '68 VW bus...

No, simple paint is too weak, sorry.

But, it is nothing more than an auto-paint job, and those are still cheaper. Im sorry if i am upsetting anybody with my oppinions.. its just that i cant really see the justification for such price (Chamelion, i dunno..)..

I am not upset by your opinions. They are yours and you have every right to them. Hey, there are folkes who will get the paintjob and those who won't - for one reason or another. The new pricing just takes it out of the equation for some folkes.

I respect and understand your opinion, it is a large amount for an already expensive item. That's just how it is, and we all need to adjust to it accordingly. As I said, some will still buy a custom-painted laptop, some will not. Heck, some will even buy a cheaper laptop than what PC Torque / Sager offers. That's just gonna be how it is.

No worries,

I guess part of my frustration, comes from me not jumping on the much lower quoted price (before the raise).. It would have been ~270 (Since i wanted a two-tone (besicly, Hypersonic's blue/black combo). That, and i was under the impression that only the Camilion would be goin up (though, this is prolly me jsut being numb... :P)

Better get MAACO! (Hmmm... let's see, if I get my car painted, and leave my laptop on the roof or the hood, ...hmmm. But my car and my Sager are already both blue, and nearly matching. NEVERMIND!)

I don't mind paying for the colour,

It will just take a little longer to save for it. It sounds like Adam has put the leg work in to get us a quality product. Hell I would rather pay $600 for a good paint job than $200 for a paint job from another company and have the paint job flake and split.

Hell in the extra time it takes to save we may see a upgradable graphics card or a speed jump in the CPU or somthing.

Yep my glass is half full

yeah looking at a couple of the painted laptops that price is still worth it in my opinion

I wish we could see a laptop painted in every color that would certainly make the decision easier

mmm I agree

show us what our hard earned green will look like

seeing the lappy in the colour we want will go a long way to helping us part with our cash

Well no High Gloss Red/Gold Chameleon paint job for the 8890v......I guess mother can have that operation now J/K

And to think I was all ready to order last night before the price hike....man that suxs.

Well you get what you pay for, and from the pics Adam posted of the Chameleon paint, it looks to be money well spent. But $670 ouch that hurts!!! Oh well, the extra $$$ in me account looks better than any paint job IMO.

Don't supose Intel or ATI has any huge price cuts planed that will reduce the over all cost of the 8890 ???

Just a thought
Intel supposedly has one planned in the next week or so, not sure on ATI.

No one knows if it will apply to the end users or to a company which already buys in bulk.

It takes over a pint to do a laptop which is close to $400 just in paint... so add labor to disassemble, sand, mask, spray, and reassemble and shipping charges and that's the price. Yes, we sold the first paint jobs way under cost to get things going and told everyone the prices would go up. We found cheaper ways to do it but not the same quality and refuse to drop the quality.

I thought $600 for a chameleon was crazy until I saw what the costs involved are. I've compared our work to other chameleon jobs and there's no comparison. If you want the true color flop, you have to buy the paint that has the prisms in it and not reduce it down or the quality goes way down. So, it's expensive, but it's the best and again, we don't make a cent off it.
This solidifies my high regard for PC Torque even more. Thank you Adam, Laura, Ratha, Tom, painters, and Sager for putting the whole paintjob operation together It must seem like more work that it's worth, especially in the initial stages. Thanks for seeing it through for the customers, and for that extra bit of compensation for the first round of buyers. Makes me appreciate you guys a milion times more especially because we now know what it's costing you guys. This goes a long way in my book.

I second that....

To all those at PC Torque.....

My gosh, I am one lucky guy then, after reading all of this...

I was going to wait until today to order my Cyan/Purple Chameleon 8890, but I decided to just do it last night. Last night, the prices hadn't been bumped up yet for the paint jobs, so I saved $300 just by ordering last night instead of waiting until today.

Thanks PC Torque, for offering such a reasonable price for this paint job. Much appreciated, and after reading this thread about how you guys were taking a bit of a hit on the costs for this beautiful paint, I realize just how fortunate I am for having been able to take advantage of that small window of opportunity, and so I'm even more appreciative.

Thanks so much for allowing me and the other "first wave" buyers the chance of adding such a beautiful and unique characteristic to our laptops for such a reasonable cost. You guys are great.

where are the pictures of the paint?

Out of curiousity...

Are the paint jobs covered under warranty? I mean, in the unlikely circumstance that your paint starts to chip off while you're still covered, can you send it in to be touched up? I've been looking at ordering a 8890 for a while and am now saving up for it, hopefully I'll get it around Christmas time, and the paint job looks like a nice addition but now I'm not sure I could handle it. If it's covered under the warranty I'd be much more interested, exspecially if the Intel price drops affect the end-user.

justfied

Once again thank you adam and all of PC torque, for going the extra mile for us.

I say this becaues I have a friend who runs a custom auto paint shop. And he once showed me two trucks that he painted using the same color of blue, but one truck had the paint that was $100 per pint and and the other truck had the $600 per pint paint. with the more expencive one the blue was still the same color but it was almost like you could look forever in to it, it was very deep. but the cheaper one was very shallow and didn't have alot of luster to it. He was bored and painted these two trucks as demo trucks(I guess he was doing well, to spend that kind of money on paint) anyway he took the truckes through the tall sage brush out here to show the diffrence between the high quality clear coat and the cheap clear coat. needless to say the high quality clear coat looked like it had hardly been touched, and the cheap clear coat was completly scratched off as well as most of the paint. So to PCT for using quality paint. I use my laptop and I don't want my paint job easly scratching off.
