Well, I've had the HP DV4040CA for over two weeks and I must say that it is working flawlessly so far. It's specs. include:
Intel Pentium 740 (1.73Ghz; 533 MHz FSB)
1024MB DDR SDRAM
100 GB Fujitsu HDD
6-in-1 Media Card reader
15.4" Brightview WXGA LCD Screen
802.11 b/g Networking
I am not a gamer so the graphics chip capable of playing 3d games is not necessary. Whenever I want to game, I just do so on my much more powerful desktop or my XBOX or PS2. I just recently got a PSP so gaming is truly portable.
The HP DV4040 has keyboard buttons that are slightly larger than one's found on desktop versions; easier typing. It also has connectivity for Bluetooth devices and the ability to expand to ExpressCard 54 (2 expansion ports in total). It possesses 4 USB ports and 1 firewire port so connectivity will certainly not be a problem.
I have left the computer on for 5 days in a row, and the fan rarely activates and the heat generated is quite minimal. I can actually keep it on my lap without feeling burned while creating photoshop images for long extended periods.
I've previously had a Dell Inspiron and 2 Toshiba laptops (M30's) and I must say that their quality is WAY below that of the HP DV4040; the Dell just stopped working right after the warranty period. The Toshiba's were better than Dell but the customer support that I received made troubleshooting the issues I had quite laborious.
I would recommend a HP laptop to anyone. When buying a laptop, it is good to keep in mind your personal needs and the reasons why you are buying a laptop; it'll make the decision process go faster. Do not get swayed by personal opinions (including mine) regarding which laptop to get, rather use them as a guide.
