Beautiful Ferrari 4000, but why so noisy??

I just received after what seemed an eternity...my Ferrari 4005wlmi system from www.shopblt.com (they were excellent by the way).

The system is an all around beauty, but 2 main issues have dampened my spirits. One, the Bluetooth mouse is WAY too choppy and unresponsive for any long term use.
Within 10 minutes I was back to my old Logitech mouse...

But most importantly, there is a constant noise, which is a nuisance. The fan is permanently on, and there is a background noise which I can only describe as the typical hard drive sound whenever one runs a virus scan. Yet it never stops.

Is this an issue with this system?? And is there a way to stop this or turn it down somewhat? I noticed Acer's eManager has a "Fan always on" option but it's unchecked... so i'm out of ideas.

Please offer any possible solutions, and share your experiences if u can. They will all be appreciated. Thanks!

I completely agree with you on the mouse. If anybody knows how to improve the communication between the laptop and the mouse then please let me know.

I'm also a little bit anoyed about the automaticly increased font size. How can I get back to the normal small fonts - without re-installing windows ofcause.

And what is your opinion about noise level?

Yup the fan is always on but i don't mind it. Compared to the other computers around me or when i watch movies or listen to music, it's not even there.

The noise is okay with me. It's generally more silent than my old Dell Inspiron 4100, which also had a noisy harddrive. But on the other hand the fans were not allways on on the Dell.
I can't tell if the HD is running in the Ferrari at all. Very silent Seagate momentus harddrive, indeed!

Thanks for the comments guys.

The noise level is definitely bearable, yet it is still very, very noticeable. And again, it's not just a simple fan noise...it's as if the system's permanently working on something in the background.

Is there some kind of tweak to the system I could consider?

And yes, the mouse issue is very unfortunate. The red and black colors are awesome, with a great heavy rubbery grip to it. I wish it did work properly..

I decided to call Acer and get their take on it. They stated the fan should be on always, but the vibration noise I hear in the background should not be happening.

It sounds just like the hard drive working in the background, but since the upper left corner light is off, that can't be it. I can actually distinguish the fan from it, so it's clearly a system-specific issue.

Now the real pain...if I give it to Acer for repair it's a 10 business day turnaround. I just got this baby yesterday and spent about 8 hrs. moving files from my old system... how awful.

did acer say anything about the mouse?

nope. forgot to ask...

this noise is the main issue anyways, but I'll ask when I call them back as I still need to schedule a pickup.

yeah the fan doesn't bother me to much at all. It is a lot quiter than other fans i have heard. I just bought a MX518 for a mouse and its a world of difference

About the mouse...

When I first got the system... I HATED the mouse. I was looking around at replacements right away. But while trying to figure out a replacement and playing some games somthing happened. The mnouse seems perfectly mine to me now. I can snipe no problem in Battlefield 2. It seems responsive now. Either the communication got better or I somehow figured out how to work it better. It seems stange to me. But it works pretty much as well as my USB one now. I dunno.

This is my first notebook, but I think the noise level is more than acceptable. I agree however the mouse is a little choppy, but I've gotten use to it in just 2 days.

You all have a ferrari, may I ask you, is the memory slot user accessible? Where are they located? Acer states memory is User Upgradeable on their site but where are the two slots?

The RAM cover is on the bottom of the notebook. Try opening it up and see if both slots are there. Let us know what you find
