My review of Compaq M2000Z

Yesterday I received my new laptop ordered online on www.compaq.com.
Here are the specs:
AMD Turion ML-34 1,8 Mhz 1Mb Cache
15` Brightview TFT Matrix
1 Gb RAM
ATI Express 200M Integrated video (up to 128 Mb of video memory)
60 Gb Hitachi Hard Drive 4200 RPM
DVD burner with dual layer support
Wifi + Bluetooth
12 cell battery.
The whole thing was for 1373 USD.
My first impression is very positive about this laptop. It looks very solid and well made. All materials used seem to be high quality.
The screen gives good vision(no dead pixels). I picked a 15` model because I don`t like wide-view screens (I`m just not used to them).
Keyboard is also very high-quality. Most of the keys are well placed.
When it comes to the speed of this laptop I have to say that the new Turion processor is a good alternative for Pentium M (and it`s cheaper). On the 12 cell battery I was surfing the web and listening to the music for 5 hours 20 minutes. I think it`s a pretty good result.
The heat generated by the components is not too big - the fan turns on every 5 minutes for a couple of seconds (exept when the 3D scenes are generated - than it works almost all the time but it`s still quiet).
The efficency of Turion is very high but I was a little bit disappointed with the new ATI Radeon 200M Integrated graphics. I know that it`s not a dedicated one but I thought it wil be a bit faster.
My 3D Marks results are:
3DMark 2001 2823 points
3DMark 2003 970 points
3DMark 2005 88 points :-)
Anyway I think that older games will be running ok on this machine.
I`m very satisfied with this purchase and I`m giving this laptop 9,5/10 points (because of this poor 3D).
Greeting for everyone!!!
LL

You cannot directly attach images from your hard disk. You need to first upload it to a hosting service and then link the image to the board.
To upload images...
Go to any online picture hosting service...they are free and create an account
www.photobucket.com or
www.imageshack.us

Upload your image, and either you can use the image tags[IMG]pic link[/IMG] or let the board software do the work for you by clicking the Image link icon in the reply page..

Nice laptop. I just picked up the M2105 a few days ago. 15" TFT display, AMD Sempron 1.6 GHz, 256MB Ram, 40GB HD, Radeon Xpress 200m video(still trying to tweak this to play Doom 3), DVD/CD-RW drive, WIFI b/g, Win XP home(which I am changing to Professional once I get the software n the mail) and I think the battery is a 6 cell(the only major complaint).

This is my first laptop so I'm pretty happy. I'm mainly using it to load software for MSCE certification so I upgraded the RAM to 768MB.

Nice review. Mine looks exactly like yours. Not too heavy too which is a plus.

This is a very nice forum.

I bought the laptop few days ago, and I determined that it produces more heat than any other recent laptops. The lower-left conner of the laptop where the hard drive is located is pretty hot after 10 minutes running the laptop. Do you have same problem?

Did you turn of ATI PowerPlay on the GPU? 3DMark03 score seams right though. Strange...

I'm please the xpress 200m can play 3D games, but I'm VERY unimpressed with the actual gaming.

Is that only 88 points in 3d mark 05 at what resolution?
I had the similar laptop, Compaq Presario M2015CA and am disappointed with the display settings that I can't change to other settings because of a native resolution on my laptop. I tried to change to 1280 x 1024 and doesn't fit in the screen of the laptop also have to use the arrow keys to scroll up and down or left to right vice versa.

Thank you,
