We reserve the right to edit, delete, block and ban and punish any posts or members. Spamming the forums on why your post we didn't feel was appropriate got deleted, posting publicly private PM conversations between you and an admin or mod, mocking our decisions will only annoy us and get you banned. Punishments may be enforced by, loss of rep, loss of credits, credits disabled, rep disabled or temporary banned from posting on the forums.

Things subject to removal and member banning:
  • Posting in the incorrect section. Don't start a thread in the review section unless it's a review, religious and political posts and items need to stay in off topic and only in off topic if they have any chance of causing problems in other sections.
  • Illegal activities. In most cases there isn't even a need for discussion of illegal activities in any way on the forums.
  • Posting related to fraud or defrauding a company in anyway.
  • Flaming, trolling, or all around negative attitude. You don't need to show off your internet fighting abilities on our forums. It's very easy to debate and discuss opinions, theories, and comparisons in a respectible way without personal attacks and we expect it of our members. Yes, excessive or inappropriate swearing is included here.
  • Any questionable promoting of a company or site. If it looks like a plug for all the wrong reasons it doesn't belong.
  • We will take most things case by case, but will be very tough to ensure the content on the site remains fair, of high quality, welcoming, and with no hidden biased agenda.
  • We are not responsible for information shared and advice/procedures given for tech support or help. The forums are not the official tech support for any brand laptop, it is only peer to peer tech help. Information we give out is to our knowledge and as best we know. If you question anything you should contact the company that made your laptop.
  • Buying and selling is an at your own risk venture. The For Sale section rules can be found here:
  • Each section follows the same guidelines in direction of its moderators who, with the community create their own atmosphere which can vary from section to section. If you're having a problem in a particular section, you should contact the moderator(s) of that section. They are volunteers and enthusiasts so respect them for their position and the work they put into these forums.
  • You will find members who identify themselves as company employees. They are here to help answer questions about their products. They will often help with a problem someone is having with an order, or just participate in discussions. Do NOT abuse them. They are not obligated to help you here. Treat them with respect for the time they're putting into helping the community. We verify all members who claim to represent a company.
Credits:
  • Any members who are caught abusing the Credit System will be banned from the system entirely starting today, January 10, 2008. Its very easy for me to keep track of this in the backend. You abuse, you lose.
  • In addition, the removal of your credits can be enforced to punish members if they abuse any of the above rules.
  • Mods and Admins reserve the right to remove the 5000 credit bonus for submitted reviews, if we feel the submitted review does not meet the standard requirements posted in every review section. If you follow the standard requirements, you will earn your 5000 credit bonus.
  • The removal of credits may also be enforced if members do not follow the standard posting requirements for posting Notebook Related News or Desktop Related News.

What Are Credits?!

As you can see, we have a new cash system setup. We figured there needs to be something other than the Reputation System to represent a member’s dedication and helpfulness to the forums. The result was a cash mod that can be used to acquire and spend fake money.

How do you acquire $$? There are multiple different ways for members to acquire money.

+$0.25 per post;
+$0.50 per thread:

You will automatically be given +$0.25 for every post you make and +$0.50 for every thread you make. These are self explanatory.

+$100 for an OFF-SITE review added via ReviewCP (CRs ONLY)
+$500 for notebook added via ReviewCP (CRs ONLY)

These two options are reserved strictly for the CRs or Community Rep members. (Those green named people you see floating around) These members have proven their dedication to the forums and are given exclusive rights to NBF’s backend notebook section to help keep the notebook database up to date.

+$100 for successful news post

There are two ways to post news. The first way is to post a thread in the Notebook News Section. The second way is to make a thread in the Desktop News Section. Both sections are heavily moderator and you must follow the rules when posting news so please do not spam these forums with nonsense and read the Rules Threads in each section before posting.

+$5000 for notebook/desktop review

The highest honor you can receive is posting a review. What better time to post a review when you just have purchased a new notebook or desktop. Again, these sections are heavily moderated so posting a review with one or two paragraphs is not necessarily the best way to earn credits. You may find your credits being taken away if it is not a fully successful review. Please follow this guideline in each section if you would like some help writing a review.

What can the $$ be used for? The credits can be used to participate in Off Topic betting games as well as some additional forum mods that will be introduced with the upcoming weeks. One of the current betting games is the First Annual NBF Super Bowl Grid Game and the Google Maps Game.

Can I trade/donate credits? Yup. To do this you can go into your userCP, and at the bottom left you will see Donations and Drawings. When you click on it you will have options to type in a Recipient, Comment and the amount of Credits to give them.

Below you will see a couple of commonly asked questions:

Hey, where'd that thread go?

-If the thread was not related to the section it was posted under it was either moved to the correct section or deleted. Our suggestion is threads be posted in the correct section in the first place to avoid this. This makes it much easier for people searching the forums for info to find it easy and also keeps the forums from being cluttered.

-If the thread had any deceitful self promotion or bashing of a competitor from a reseller acting as a regular member, we remove it and the member doing it. It could be the one who started the thread or a reply in the thread. If the thread even looks like it's self promotion, has the potential to turn into self promotion, or here to plug/bash a company we may remove it. We do not want to open the doors for resellers to use the members like a meat market. This is not a reseller review site since we have no means to validate all the praises and complaints from the companies mentioned if they are really customers.

-If the thread had any potential for flaming, pricewars, closet company scam, or just plain ugliness we will close or remove it.

Also keep your FREE IPOD! crap off of here, doesn't matter if it's legal or not, it's based around email spamming and when we have 20 members posting trying to get people to sign up, it becomes forum spamming. Your forum membership will be removed.

Besides that, some threads vanish by choice of who posted it. You have the option to delete your own threads on the forums.

Hey, why is that name blocked?

-If we have caught a reseller, company, or website self promoting through deceit and pretending to be a member praising themselves, or just plain spamming the forums throwing sales pitches through posts and/or PMs we sometimes block their name from even being mentioned. This is to stop the spam and keep that kind of greed from the forums. We haven't blocked all of the ones we've caught doing this, only the most extreme ones. If someone makes a post regarding one of these dirt bags we've caught doing this and the name isn't blocked, we might remove the name or post even if there's a hint of it looking like a plug to generate interest instead of speak of an experience.

While we would love to post a list of all the companies that have done this or we're investigating doing this we don't for two reasons, 1) We don't want to promote them since some feel negative publicity is better than none. 2) We try and give second chances when we feel they just made a poor decision trying to pull such a stunt.

You will see us from time to time calling someone out and changing the subject of their post to include "(FRAUD POST!)" in the subject. So, do a subject seach of the forums for fraud post and you'll see some of them.

We want to keep the information legit and as unbiased as possible and this is the best we have found to do it. We want members to be able to research the pros and cons of various brands of laptops, read reviews, and get questions answered without the corporate prick breathing down your neck trying to sway your opinion in a way they will be benefited by doing whatever it takes. Any suggestions, feel free to email admin.

Hey, you dirt bags trying to promote here pretending to not have ties to the company you're plugging:

If you think we're not on to you, keep smoking that stuff and we'll call you out. We WILL get warrants to force ISPs and proxy servers to release info they don't want to tell us by request. We can and do catch people with ties plugging a company. You better watch those phone calls and shred all paperwork cause you will be caught! We go so far most would tell us to get a life and let it go already, but NO, there will be JUSTICE!

Thank you everyone for stopping by. We will continue to provide and grow the best notebook community on the net. This isn't just another site ran by business focused people trying to create traffic to make money off banner ads. We truly love the work we do and our work is knowing laptops beyond what the spec sheet says. We are techs and gamers that welcome everyone to come swap knowledge and learn. We have MANY things planned and in the works to better the community through enhanced features and information.

For Sale section scammers you've come to the wrong forum, we won't let it happen here. The mods watch For Sale for anything they feel is a potential scam and look into it. Also, if you're trying to post in For Sale, you must have 25 posts. DO NOT spam the forums to acquire 25 posts or your account will be removed.
