The Unofficial Asus Z71V Support Thread - Page 5

Accordinmg to RJ Tech, they're fairly easy to build, compared to other notebooks. Some info for you: it uses DDR2 running at 533 Mhz, the hard drive is 2.5", and the wireless is provided by a mini pci card. The dealbreaker for you may be that it does NOT have a glossy screen, no matter who you buy from.

1) Download the nvidia driver

3a) download the latest INF file from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/ and save it
to the same directory you had extracted earlier.

Rightclick on link, and select SAVE AS.

Look at the HOW TO:

install nvidia card thread, I've included an INF file zipped in that thread you could download as wlel.

Hey guys, im running the 77.50 driver for my z71v and recently i've been getting blue screens and the computer restarts immediately.
I get it after playing over 30 mins of WoW and it only happens when i exit the game. The computer will run fine as long as i dont exit the game, but as long as i exit the game, i get a blue screen and the computer restarts on its own.
Any ideas?
i forgot the error msg i get after restarting, but i'll record it next time if it happens again. hopefully that'll be more helpful.

Usually that is because of driver issue. Try to uninstall and reinstall the driver to see. If not go up to 77.70 or 77.72. If not go down to 77.30

OK, still trying to solve my scrolling problem. I think it's not a mouse or touchpad thing. I'm thinking video driver. So I'm following the protocol above and I have no Update Driver option on the Driver tab of the Adapter Properties

Is there another route I can take to install the driver and inf file?

If not I guess I'll grap the 27MB Asus package and let 'er fly

Video driver? What version do you have now? You could try a newer version or older version. You could load it from nvidia.com and use the INF file that came with the Asus.

I've attached a copy of it in the HOW TO: Install nvidia driver thread.

Sorry for not being clear. I have v77.72 and the inf file, both from laptopvideo2go. And I've updated drivers for other devices before. But when I try to update this one using your How To steps I don't have an Update Driver option on the Driver tab of the Adapter Properties (step 10). I was wondering if there was another way to update the driver/inf file. Am I missing something?
Thanks for your patience.

Are you using Windows XP?

Another way to get to it is go to your control panel. Click on System icon. Click on Device Manager.

In the list of all the devices, right click on the one with the display adapater and update it that way.

Yes, XP Pro. I'll check the CP route when I get off work this p.m. Thanks.

I checked. The reason I didn't have the same option you described in Step 10 was that I had not loaded ANY display drivers. I was going to just load the latest. That doesn't work. First I had to load those off the setup CD. Sorry for the confusion. Oh, and not haveing loaded the CD driver was the cause of my dodgy scrolling and window dragging. Sorry about the wild goose chase.

I think I can successfuly load the latest drivers now. Thanks!

Ah, if you have not load any display drivers yet, then going to the control panel method will work for you.

Control Panel
System
Drive Manager
Click on Display Adapter and go in to the properties there...there is a button to uninstall driver.
thanks, i hope it'll work. Before I just installed the driver 77.72 from the 77.50 without uninstalling 77.50 first, and I was still encountering the same problem.

btw, could it be that my video card is overheating?

Hey guys, first off having driver issues, posted in the general section instead. Sorry about that.

Secondly having a wierd thing with the keyboard. When I press Shift + 2 I am expecting the at symbol but what I really get is " and when I press Shift + " I am really getting the @ symbol. So basically my two keys are switched somehow. Anyone know anything about this?
