Just got my 9300. Need help about screen

Hey, I just got my 9300 a few days ago. While I have some heat problem, I really didn't want to go through the trouble of sending them back the laptop so I decide to stay with it. But today, I just realized that it hurt my eyes by looking at the 9300 screen. When I use the 6000d, it doesn't hurt my eyes at all. My 6000 have 1600x1025 resolution while my 9300 have 1900x1200. I also have cleartype on and set it to 96DPI. I took 2 pictures of my screen. It is because of light leakage? Thanks

thats alot of light-leakage.

Looks like the Samsung because of the pinch marks on the upper right-ish area. Mine has about the same amount of leakage, and it bothers me because I like dark backgrounds.

I already replaced the original LG one I had, and believe it or not... I find the light leaking Samsung to be better... it's gotten better over time, my eyes don't hurt as much as they did with the LG and its sparkles.

These screens are apparantly hit or miss. I have the LG screen with no sparkles or eyestrain. The light leakage has basically disappeared with time. I don't know if calling Dell helped. I changed my original order and got the truelife screen.

Well, I can't stand the eyestrain so I think I will return this laptop and order a new one. I do not want to send it to them and wait for them to send it back. Also, I am having some heat issue too so I guess that would be a better choice. Anybody know if they are going to make us pay for shipping? thanks

holy smokey bandit, thats a lotta light leakage,,,I guess i've been lucky on both my 9300 and Gen 2.

They should be able to have them send you a replacement before you have to send that one back. Usually you just use the box the new one comes in. Try to get them to do that.

How do I do that? I already talked to one of Dell rep. about my issue and they want me to send it to Depot. Can I ask them for a replacement combine with this light leakage issue? Thanks

Hey, I have the WXGA+ screen, so I don't have to worry about the sparkles. I do have some darker areas in the bottom corners. I'm still debating on whether to return it. I have a good amount of leakage, but not quite as bad as yours.

@anhyeast:

I love it. You over-expose your photo by 8-10 stops and call it "light leakage." A properly exposed pic would show the XP logo in its true colors.

Uhh, I really dont know how to use a camera that much. I just set it to night mode and took the picture. The main problem is that it is giving me major eyestrain. I can't even look at the screen for straight 2 mins without turning away.

yep.. that's an overexposed picture.. but the light leakage is there.. its just that the over exposure makes it much worse than it actually is

where are the most problems in 9300 its on wxga screen or in wuxga screen ??
Probably some problems like light leakage and sparkles effect are more obvious with wuxga and maybe in addition with the glossy technology. It seems that Samsung wuxga screens would give the best average quality. I know that, after sending back my wuxga 9300 because of too much eyestrain, I am now very pleased with the wxga+ I got two days ago. The screen is not 'perfect' : could be brighter, vertical viewing angles not so great, a bit grany with light backgrounds (it's an LG by the way) but overall very comfortable for any kind of use (Word, websurfing, gaming...).
Not sure about that but I think the matte display is less agressive. Anyway the wuxga was too high for my poor eyes, you have to think about that too (depends on how's your sight). Just wondering if Samsung wxga+ is better than the LG. I might then ask for a change. Any advice/opinion ?

LOL, this guy posts a seriously overexposed pic of his screen complaining of eye strain and the other dorks agree that his screen suffers from major light leakage, LOL.

Just finished personally replacing my 9300's WUXGA screen

I just finished a swap earlier this morning from an LG
WUXGA to a Samsung WUXGA in my 7-day-old 9300.
The LG was pretty nice for me--especially the black levels,
but it had an AMAZINGLY bright green stuck pixel kind of
near the center of the screen. Unbelievably distracting.

Anyways, after some pain in getting the old screen out and
the new Samsung in (a LTN170WU-L01 by the way) I have
to say that I'm finding it easier on my eyes than the LG.
Don't exactly know why, but I DID notice that the finish on
this Samsung is much more matte than the LG's glossy...

Also, the Samsung at max isn't quite as bright as the LG
was.

Just my $0.02.

thorndt,

how long did the swap take you? I agree, the LG is brighter than the Samsung, at least on the two I own/ed, by about 10 cdm (using hardware measurement). I wonder if you have a matte Samsung that was made for the 9200?

I really dont get all these people in here. So what are you trying to say Prism? I am trying to PURPOSELY over-exposed my pic so maybe you could feel sorry for me? Wow, I got some sympathy from you. Im so happy now. /sacarsm. Please understand that I am not good with taking camera and I am just trying to see if my screen is okie to not. Why do some people in here think I purposely make my problem worse for. I found that a little funny.

Why not post another pic in a normally lighted room environment of your screen with some more typical content on it? A screen capture of a DVD or a webpage, for example. Then we could perhaps get a better idea of your "light leak."

Most people don't sit in a pitch black room and stare at a black screen. But if you do, then please disregard this.
