how hard would it really be to reformat the 2 partitions... i like the idea of having two, but id rather they be 20-80 or something like that.

and if i were to partition it 20-80, and ran windows on the smaller, and downloaded/installed everything to the other, is it possible for windows to get infected with a virus/problems causing me to need to reformat the actuall OS, where as if i just got a virus on the 80 hd i could just reformat it and reinstall/d/l everything else again...

im a newb to partitions, i really only fooled around with them when i had a dual boot system on my PC: linux/windows.

I just got mine today and I love it so far. At first I thought that the curved keyboard would be weird but I don't even notice it while I type or play games.

It runs BF2 and HL2 great. As for the noise when you are just doing word and other things on battery you notice the fan but its hardly anything. The palms get a bit warm but nothing major at all. And for the mouse well it sucked at first but for some reason it has gotten better, I think it might have something to do with the batteries being fully charged.

All and all I couldn't really ask for anything more for the package. Its by far the best looking laptop I think and the size and weight is great.

On your keyboards, do the keys rock back and forth if you slide your finger over any key? It is really annoying to hear a click sound or feel the key moving when you aren't pressing on it.

Future Asus Owner, Yes my keys click if....

you lightly touch the front of the keys (nearest the screen) or the back (nearest you).
They make a very annoying click sound, and the space bar clicks badly no matter where or how you touch it.

Other than the keyboard what an awesome machine.

Every keyboard is going to have some sort of give in the keys that will cause a noise. Personally, I don't notice any clicking and I'm a big fan of the keyboard as a whole, very comfortable and the keys are very taut and bouncy. They keyboard is a whole lot quieter than my Logtech MX700 wireless keyboard, that thing is a beast.

maybe the clicking will go away on mine, because that is the main thing that i really hate about this laptop, everything else is great, but the damn keyboard is annoying.

I ordered my Ferrari 4005 from Newegg early Saturday morning. Newegg shipped it out on Monday and FedEx delivered it on Wednesday (from California to Pennsylvania) even though I used the SuperSaver which normally takes three days. As always, I'm very pleased with Newegg's service!

So I've had my Ferrari for a little over 48 hours. I hate to buck the trend but, so far, I'm NOT happy. There are a lot of things I don't like about it. But I'll just mention a couple of them. First, there's the mouse. Everyone in these forums has reported pretty much the same experience with the mouse. It's erratic, choppy, mine even has the cursor jump to a different part of the screen once in a while. So Acer has to know this mouse is crap. Why did they include it then? They should be embarrassed and ashamed to include such poor quality equipment with their computers. It makes me nervous when I've paid $2,200 for a notebook to realize that the company that made it has displayed so little concern for quality. I find myself wondering what else might be poor quality and go bad on the machine over the next 3-5 years.

Then there's the keyboard. The keys are too small. They're even smaller than my old laptop that had a 12 inch screen! This means I make a lot more mistakes when typing and that wastes a lot of time. And the curve in the keyboard is just plain silly. I've never had problems with carpal tunnel before, but last night, after answering my email on the computer for just about an hour, my wrists were already aching. The surface of the keyboard where you place your wrists gets very hot. Not burning hot but hot enough that it's uncomfortable, even in an over-air conditioned office. I suppose, on the positive side, maybe I can turn down the heat this winter whenever I'm using my Ferrari. :-)

During setup, Acer's E-Recovery software suggested I make a factory image of the hard drive and and write it to DVD. So I clicked yes to do that. After burning "disk 1" it prompted me for a second DVD. but when I placed that one in the writer it rejected it, saying that I needed to place a DVD of the "same type" in the machine. But the DVD WAS exactly the same type. Thinking maybe it was a bad DVD I tried another one. Same message. And then another one. I tried five total before giving up and cancelling the back up. Later I used the same DVD that had been rejected to write something else. So there WASN'T any problem with the DVD itself. Again this makes me nervous. Maybe it's a problem in Acer's E-Recovery software. But I wonder if this may indicate a problem with the DVD writer itself. One that may not show up again right now but cause me difficulties later down the road as the machine gets older. Later I tried to burn the factory image backup again and it finished, only requiring one DVD for the entire backup. So I don't know what was going on.

Well, those are some examples. I also don't like the size of the machine or the weight. Even though it technically weighs less than my old laptop, the Ferrari "feels" heavier. I'm not sure why. If I had seen this computer in the store before buying, if I could have picked it up and and held it just once, I would have immediately scratched it off my list of possible notebooks. I know that's a matter of personal preference. But I have to live with this choice for the next 5 years. For me the purchase of the Ferrari 4005 was a major mistake and I thoroughly regret it. I'm sure I'll get used to it over time. But I'm not happy with it.

Oh...and I just can't wait to get to re-partitioning the hard drive and converting it to NTFS because Acer was stupid enough to take a 100g hard drive and partition it into three sections......

O.K. I'm done complaining and being so negative. It does look nice though! :-)

Jeeeeesh Spartos,
It's not that bad. Hey the keyboard has a horrible feeling in relation to the keys clicking, but thats about it. My mouse is intermitent.
By a 15" Apple Powerbook G4, that is a POS!! I went through 4 units, great Apple customer care but crap notebooks.

Spartos looks like all of your issues are user preference, if you saw it in person you probably would of passed on it, I can respect that.

Have your tried charging the mouse with the included cable and giving it another shot? Some users have reported their issues with the mouse have gone away after doing this.

The eRecovery issue you technically don't need to make the Drive Image DVD since it ships on CDs already, but it should work since it is on your machine. Have you tried again to see if it would work? Any other users share this experience?

As far as size and weight this thing is perfect and should be appluaded.

You will not find another laptop [there may be a few] with the same performance and low weight. Come on, a 2.0Ghz Turion, 1GB DDR RAM, 100GB Hard Drive, ATI X700 PCI Express Card under 6.3lbs, under 1.4' inches, with a 15.4" widescreen display?

Every user varies, I can respect that, No offense to you or anyone for that matter

What is the problem with the Hard drive? And what is the advantage to switching to NTFS? How do you switch?

Acer should have raised the price and made it more like a real Ferrari. Hand assembled, hand tested. No shortcuts, no compromises... No expense spared. Ferrari doesn't expect the public to accept a Ferrari with non-responsive steering, a cheap plastic dashboard, and under rated tires no matter how powerful the engine inside. So why should Acer? Why should we?
There are plenty of great looking, fast cars in this world that are still junk. Acer didn't put one of their name badges on this laptop, they put Ferrari's. I don't feel like I own a Ferrari. I feel like I own a Camaro. And I'm tired of hearing my cheap plastic dash squeek. I want a Ferrari. And I want my mouse covered in hand stitched leather.

I am shocked at all the complaints about the keyboard, I assumed it was the same unit that is in my 800 series laptop, And I love the feel of this keyboard my keys click fairly softly have great feel almost like an old mechanicaly switching IBM but with only about 1/3 the travel depth, I can type better on this thing than just about any other keyboard I have ever used, and the metal backing means that it has no flex at all, if only the letters hadnt worn off the keys so quickly I would rate this keyboard near perfect. The price is driving me away from the 4000 series but I am very curious about how sturdy the screen enclosure is, that is one of the primary complaints I have read about the 8100 series, actualy looking at the prices on the 4400 series I am thinking about geting one of those as my next laptop.

lol, if they did all that, the laptop would cost $3000+

Rastlin - you may not have to live with the letters being worn off on your keyboard. This happened to me and I complained to Acer and they sent me a new keyboard that had a visibly improved key-stenciling process. The old keyboard seemed to be a one-step spray on and quickly wear-off deal. The new had what looks like a hard clear coat over the letter paint.

Hi Rastlin,
Do your keys click or "snap" if you very lightly press the front or back of the keys. It Kinda sounds like they are sticking or catching on something.
I went to Comp USA to see if other models of Acers do this and they do not.
I'm VERY Happy with this laptop. I'm sure happier with this than any other laptop out there.
I guess I'd pay $3000+ for a laptop if I could have exactly what I wanted.
I agree with nis, I'd rather be poorer and get exactly what I want than have more money and a laptop I wasn't thrilled with.

Nope my keys only make a soft clicking sound when you push down on them hard enough for a keystroke, and its the same sound no matter what part of the key you hit. I dont like the fact that it sounds like they may have a worse keyboard now than the one I have, and I know I can get a new one under warranty I have just been sort of lazy about it cause I have a key on the touch pad that came not working and I dont want to give the laptop up for a week.

No problems with the keyboard on my ferrari either. Except for the layout being different from my old Dell Inspiron 4100 i think the keybord on the Ferrari is way better than the Dell's. The keys are more silent, more reponsive, and I like the curved keyboard layout.

Have anyone else noiticed that the laptop makes a "ding" sound when you close the lid and press it (gently) down near the touchpad? I was a bit nervous about this at the beginning, but it turns out that the presure activates the scroll key on my F4000, which makes a ding sound if there are no windows to scroll. Luckily the scroll key is not placed so that it could damage the screen.
