The Latitude D810 laptop is one of the best models Dell offers. It is aimed at buyers who want power and good mobility. It is superior to their Inspiron models.
Dell Latitude D810 specs as reviewed:
Intel Pentium M Dothan 1.86Ghz
1GB DDR 2 PC-4300
60GB Hard drive SATA
ATI Mobility X600 128MB
15.4'' UltraSharp WSXGA+ TFT LCD 1680X1050
Reasons for buying:
I wanted to upgrade from my Inspiron 1150 but i also wanted to get something really good. I spend a lot of times in front of a computer due to my work and this laptop has proven to be a very fast and well build one.
Design and Quality Build
The Tri Metal chassis is excellent. No more cracking sounds when I lift the laptop up. The laptop is not very big but not small either. It is just perfect. There are no design flows on this machine.
Display and Graphics.
The screen is excellent. At 15.4'' with a 1680x1050 resolution it makes it a great one. I believe it has some sort of antiglare coating so you can still see everything on screen even under direct sunlight.
Also , there is not even 1 dead pixel !!
The ATI X600 128MB card perfoms good. I can play Unreal Tournament with all settings set to max with no problems or lag.
Speakers
Actually i have never heard such good sound coming from laptop speakers before. Good quality speakers and sound.
CPU
I decided to go with the Pentium M 1.86Ghz because the 2.0Ghz was just to expensive to justify a 200mhz difference. So far this CPU is very fast. Boot time is around 30seconds!
Wifi
I went with the Intel Pro 2200b/g mini pci card . It connects to my access point just fine. Again , not a problem with that card.
Battery
Seems that 3hours and 45min is the best it can do , but this is no problem to me.
Software
It came preloaded with winXP and some other softwares. I did not bother to take a look because i immediately formated the hard drive and installed Linux.
Conclusion
This is a great laptop. I am very pleased with my purschase
Pros
Large wide screen
Fans are quiet and do not come on often
Good battery life
No flex – sturdy
Cons
No DVI
No SecureDigital reader
