Audio on M680XL

I've had my M680XL for a few weeks and love it. Only thing that bugs me is the audio. On DVDs, it's really not loud at all. If there is any kind of outside noise, it completely drowns it out. When I say outside noise, I include little things like footsteps and rainfall. When I plugged in my headphones, the audio was only slightly improved and there was a presistent buzzing sound which was more noticeable when the movie was stopped. I'm gonna assume that the buzzing is some kind of feedback from another component. But the loudness issue bugs me cause I read that the speakers were fairly loud.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance

on my brother's clevo, if you go into the volume control, there is a advanced button. clicking on that brings you to the advanced page which has an option for"loudness". If you check it, your volume will get a boost. Check if your sound card has this feature too...other than that, I guess you need to get an external sound card or osmething.

Try updating the drivers. I know that on my 7405gx, the sound level was very low and when I updated the drivers the sound problem corrected itself.

It fixed it, but only marginally.....kinda disappointing if you ask me

Use the sound boosting option in PowerDVD or WinDVD

I've had the buzzing problem with my m680xl. All you have to do is go to volume control in windows and mute "line in" and "PC Speaker" This solved my problem.

When you say sound boosting option, are you referring to changing the settings for your environment? that's a function available on PowerDVD. I don't have anything else as far as DVD decoding software except for crappy ass windows media player. That option, however, on PowerDVD is on and IMO it's still not loud enough. Like I said, reinstalling drivers helped a little, but I have heard louder. It doesn't have to sounds like my home stereo, but loud enough so that I can at least hear it clearly

I just received my 680 today, and although it's wonderful in many ways, I have a few concerns.

Like Hybrid9TN, the max volume seems very inadequate for dvd playback if there is the slightest noise distraction in the background.

The buzzing with headphones plugged in was quite annoying until I tried Linari's recommendation, which seemed to do the trick.

I know there has been a lot of debate about the heat, and how much is too much, etc.
I've noticed a significant amount of heat in the armrest area, especially on the left side. At times typing is uncomfortable. Is this an accepted drawback to this machine, or could something really be wrong? I'm no laptop wizz so can someone tell me how to run some tests to get temp readings?

The screen looks brilliant, but I would like to check to see if there are any dead pixels. Is there some software I have to use to test this? If so what?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

It was already set at "noisy" and still pretty weak.

Don't know about the m680 but my 6805 has a control panel applet called 'Sound Effect Manager' that includes a graphic equalizer. If you turn up all 10 sliders you'd get quite a boost (12 dB!).

I found a "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the control panel which has an equalizer with 5 or 6 sliders. I turned them all the way up but the sound is still really weak while playing a DVD. Pretty disappointing. Is there any other way to give it a boost, either internally or otherwise?
