100GB 7200rpm gone? - Page 4

No. My order isn't IN production. It is stuck at the very beginning. The hard drive is not there. Hard to build a computer without a hard drive. Did you order the 7k100 drive? If you did, and you are in building, then congratulations. Oh, by the way, it takes around 5 minutes to build a computer... so... I hope you are onto testing already, and boxing later today.

Well if you don't complain to Dell Customer Care, you won't get anything.

Let's see what you can score off Dell while you're waiting...

Looks like most of you guys are on July 15 and mine is July 12 - don't get your hopes up, I've been waiting longest and it's been vapourware so far...but July 15 could be it ?

Also, the 35% sales finishes at 07/07 so keep an eye to see if they bring back the 7k100 drive at $340 or $499 - suspect that Dell took it off because it loses too much money with the 35% off on this hot HDD and increases the demand on this drive.

I wonder if we wait long enough the 2.23 PM comes out, swap out to the 7K80 and upgrade the processor.......hmmmh.

My estimated ship date is the 11th - so technically, I signed up for this.

But as soon as the 12th comes, I'm calling them.

It may be delayed as well - new equipment sometimes is (as you guys are painfully experiencing...) If you do re-order, I'd avoid anything where the ink on the boxes is still wet.

Well I emailed Dell CS again tonight and this is the BS response:

I also received a Dell survey so I bagged them there as well. Slowly, just slowly losing patience...

Names have been changed to protect the innocent, yeah right.

=========================================================

Dear Mr. Albsterama,

Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.

This is Abhimanyu the Supervisor at Dell?s Online Customer Care. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you and I assure you of a positive experience.

On reviewing your order number 999999999 for Inspiron XPS (Generation 2), I show that it in production. Mr. Albsterama, I understand that at this point any further apologies from my side to you would be understating the seriousness of the issue and would be a complete waste of your time.

I know the inconvenience it has caused for the unusually long time period involved in the processing of your order. The Inspiron XPS (Generation 2) is one of our latest launches and as happens with any popular new launch, the volume of orders being received by us is in excess of our immediate turnaround capacity.

We had anticipated this and had therefore provided a lead-time of 15-30 days. This is the reason why you have an estimated ship date of Tuesday, July 12, 2005 compared to the regular 5-7 days time frame involved for Dell system orders.

Mr. Albsterama, I truly appreciate for the patience and understanding you have shown on this delay. To check the status of the orders and to track the shipments please visit the following link:

Please remember to mail me back if you have any questions or queries in mind. I will always be ready to assist you to the best of my abilities.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to assist you. I hope to have addressed all your concerns to your satisfaction. Your case number for this interaction is 999999999. Please keep this number for your record. It will help us to track this issue so we can better assist you if you have any further questions or concerns.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Dell Customer Care at:

Again, thank you for choosing Dell Online Customer Care.

Have a nice day.

Respectfully,
Abhimanyu

FWIW, I got my 100gb 7200rpm a few weeks ago in my XPS2 and it seems quite speedy. They do exist...I was one of the 5/11/05 order guys...first day the drive was available. Took me nearly 6 weeks to get it.

Feels much more like a desktop system in there having a sizable drive that is also fast...previous laptops always seemed to lack a bit there.

jmX, could you run hdtach and post the graph?

seems worth it to me....

well its now exactly week three for me, I didn't get any email...I'm kinda confused as to what to do. I don't want to email that link and then for some reason screw something else up and get it cancelled. But at the same time I don't want to just wait around and get it cancelled.

I still don't understand how they will cancel your order before the flipp'n ship date....

Thanks jmX, good to hear you got one of those... I know there were several others from the May 11 group but have not heard hide or hair from them. Like I said, I will wait just a little longer.

Yeah, waiting is fun Still not into production, I'm hoping it goes early next week.

Well its now been three weeks and a day for me...did you get an email yet Penquin? I'm getting a bit worried as to where I should go from here.

After thinking about it I'm willing to change to the 80GB drive I guess. I still want to wait a few more days but I also don't want this to go forever and have them cancel my order. If there was no chance that they'd cancel it then I'd wait but I don't want it to get autocancelled.

How do I go about doing that?
Hey Ninjawho - be pro-active, send an email with your Order # on the subject line to US_DELL_NOTIFY@dell.com stating you don't want to be auto-cancelled and make sure you send a request receipt...at least then you have proof...

Also, email Dell Customer Service and ask why the hold up..they usually comp you there as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting scamming but after waiting now like 8 weeks, 4 or more weeks, you should be comped....

Friday July 15 sounds good to me. If jmX's case is a pattern, its around 6 weeks. Coupled with that email I posted earlier from the "supervisor" of Dell CS and jmX, it's a 6 week wait - also makes sense why they removed the HDD from the config website. Not too good to advertise 35 business days excluding weekends.

hang in there bro !!!

I haven't received any emails yet. I am just going to wait it out. It is supposed to ship next Friday, which would be 22 business days (21 if you don't include the 4th of July). It has to enter building sometime next week (I'd say Tuesday) because it has to go through boxing to get here from Malaysia. What else can I do besides wait? I've already emailed once and they said I cannot change my order without cancelling. So I don't know. The wait continues...

Do I put that I don't want to be autocancelled in the subject line or the body of my email? And what about my customer #?

And do you mean a read receipt?

The email that I gave Dell was hotmail and I don't think i can do a receipt with them. I was just going to email with my verizon account...is that ok?

Put your order # on the subject line. In the body of the email put on the first line "RE: Customer # 11111111, Order # 111111111" and just state that "this is an official notice not to auto-cancel my order # 1111111" and your name at the end of it.

A read receipt should be a feature of your email program and will prompt the receipient of your email to request a return receipt. Should be basic email 101.

Does it matter that my order number is two sets of digets? I have two seperate orders. Should I just worry about that computer order?
the other is a security cable.
