USB Port Mod (for 600m/D600) - Page 2

This is the mod for me!! I use a USB wireless mouse that has problem with the range. So moving one of the ports to the side is the answer!

Some mention that you can use one from the blue tooth or the floppy. What are the connection to solder the wires to?

GREAT JOB?

I checked out the usb connection on the secondary "IDE" connector and yes it does seem like a regular independent usb port like mikemex earlier mentioned. I would be interested in seeing the pinout. I'll PM mike. While this would be cool to utilize for the mod, the soldering job maynot be as feasable - the pins on the back of the connector are very close together.

Amazing!!! It seems better than a factory made cut on the chassis for the USB port!!! You're the MAN!!!

Well, it has more ports than you can imagine, but some of them are really hard to be reached. Here goes the whole list:

Two user accesible (back).
One from the bluetooth header.
One inside the modular bay.
One inside the docking station modular bay.
Three on the back of the docking station.
One on the side of the docking station, for the D/Bay.
Depending on your use of a docking station or not, there is plenty to choose from.

Michael: I've got your message and currently searching for my small interface plate because I lost it

Well, I'm looking into doing the mod in my 8600c, but I am going to do it with a small 2 port USB 2.0 hub that I found. I also PM'ed mikemex about the possible USB header in the modular bay to soldier the usb hub to instead of sacrificing one of the back USB ports. But if worse comes to worse, I will attach it to the bottom back USB port. I of course will make a guide of how to do this with pictures if I am successful. I am also doing this mod along with a few others like the chassis mod, and keyboard mod, and GPU and CPU heat modifications. Might take a while..... Wish me luck.

Yikes! you sure are daring. Regarding the i8600c, which I also own, have you seen Bay wolf's site:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/xtrausb.htm

This talks about that "extra available slot"...but not sure if in fact there are unused USB pins to make use of on the MB......

I was just wondering myself, as I'm tired of reaching around back too....

Well, I've got the parts finally, but it's going to be one hell of a time trying to fit the USB hub inside. It will take extreme modifications. I Hope I don't screw anything up...

Dell B130 USB mods

Hi guys - I'm new, looking for some help with a few mods I'm trying to complete.

I'm using a Dell B130, 1.5 Ghz(Overclocked to 1.850), 1 Gig Ram, 60 Gig HD. I want to add an internal USB Bluetooth and mouse adapter - preferable without losing my external USB ports. Is there an internal unused USB port I can tap into? I have not cracked open the case as of yet, I would like some info and help before I do.

I have 3 external USB ports.

okay okay okay, SUPER old thread I know, but if anyone's still interested/hanging around that wrote this thread I've been wondering: Is it possible to put an reciever for a wireless mouse (in the case the G7) into your laptop? like solder the connectors onto the USB? it sounds simple but I don't want to lose the function of my USB ports, I use all of them frequently. So the next querstion is should I do something like get a super mini two port USB hub and attach that internally to the usb connectors? would that work?

thanks

Mike Check
