Dell Infrared

Thread Starter
I have an XPS inspiron. I need to attach c-pen to the infrared using the usb-com cable. Because I need to change the setting on the infrared, I asked dell for specifics on the Dell installed hardware.

First they told me I had no infrared, then they told me that the infrared could not be enabled, then they told me that I had to contact software support at $99. an hour.

The Dell setup does not allow me to access the infrared. Dell insists that setup and bios are the same, and if the item cannot be accessed then it is a software problem and I must pay to get assistance.

Is anyone familiar with the Dell infrared and how I can adjust this dell accessory?

Did you try going to the device manager, right clicking on it (it shoudl be there if you enabled it int he BIOS) and changing the settings? You might also have to start the service it by going to Start->run->services.msc and enabling the "Infrared Monitor" service.

My 8600 has an IR port but, by default, it's disabled. I have to go into the BIOS and enable it.
