700m brain transplant worked!

I'll try to keep this simple. I got a new 80gb for the 2.0 700m which had a 60gb in it. The 1.6 700m had a 40gb in it and after replacing the 60 with the 80, it seemed good business to replace the 40 with the 60 from the 2.0.

The lappys were identical except for the wifi (2200 on the 2.0/1350 on the 1.6) and optical drives (CDRW on the 1.6/DVD+/-RW on the 2.0) and it just seemed logical I could just take the 40out and pop the 60 in if everythong was the same. So I got a 2200 card from eBay (24 bucks) and an NEC ND 6500A burner (same as the 2.0) from Newegg and replaced the wifi, optical and hard drive on the 1.6 and fired it up.

The first boot was slow and I got a command line screen which I just closed but everything is working perfectly and subsequent boots have been normal, no black boxes. Man! I feel like a real geek!

I just replaced my 60Gb with an 80Gb. Finally, after 2 months I have more than 1Gb free space!! I put my old 60Gb in a 2.5" USB case:

You're not a real geek until you've built yourself an entire desktop computer.

Epox board M something or other
Matrox Video Dual Monitor 32mg (this was screaming hot)
Soundblaster card

Hey where did you get your vaio usb case? thanks
post #12 of 23
eBay! It isn't really Sony, just has vaio on the case. Its very nice though. Incredibly thin, and only cost AU$15.57.

Double geek points for breaking anything inside case and replacing mobo.

I got (and still have) a Dimension 8200 when they first came out with RDRAM! It was soooo expensive with 384MB RDRAM, but it was tops! Also had a 120Gb HDD and DVD+RW burner!! It was top of the line at the time!

I've been hoping for my dad to buy a new processor (its currently 2.26Ghz), but no go. I have put in an extra DVD+/-/RW/RAM burner, 60Gb HDD, Firewire, TV Tuner, and USB2 PCI card since we got it.
