Microsoft bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse - Slight problem, need help...

Thread Starter
I just got the Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse for bluetooth and it's working ok with one exception. First off, I am using the internal bluetooth that came with my i9300 and the devices are connecting no problems. My problem is after about 5 minutes of no use the mouse has to re-establish connection with the laptop. This is done seemlessly but after it re-establishes connection I noticed that the mouse skips around as though the batteries are low. I was able to get around this problem by deleting the device from the Bluetooth Manager and reconnecting it. After reconnecting, the mouse is smooth. There must be a better solution. Is there anyone out there who experienced the same problem and found a solution?

Thanks in advance,

I don't think it's defective... It works perfectly fine except when it needs to reconnect after non-use. I think it has something to do with my bluetooth settings or something...

I had the same problem... Its the toshiba bluetooth stack that came with the 9300, not your card or keyboard/mouse...

You have to uninstall the toshiba drivers and use microsoft's drivers. You will loose some features, mainly bluetooth headset support... :-/ But, your mouse and keyboard will work perfectly

These are simple instructions for uninstalling the toshiba drivers, and installing the microsoft ones:

1. Go to "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
2. Restart
3. Ignore the new hardware found prompt (Hit cancel)
4. Go to "C:\Windows\inf" (It is a hidden directory) and rename bth.bak to bth.inf
5. Restart again... It should automatically load your hardware.
6. Go to the registry (Start -> Run: "regedit") and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\don't load" and remove "bthprops.cpl" from the list.
7. Restart again... It should all work!

I hope this helps!

I just wanted to say thanks for the tip. I had the same problem on my new XPS2 and your tip worked like a champ.

I get more useful information out of this forum from posters like you and I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

For me, bth.bak was in c:\i386, not c:\windows\inf. I renamed it and copied it into c:\windows\inf and it worked - I don't know which file location caused it to work.

Also, bthprops.cpl isn't in my registry at that location so I ignored that step. I'm about to test everything out to see what's happening.

(I'm running a brand spanking new D810 with XPSP2.)

EDIT: Works!!

a good thread, no here's my problem. I have a inspiron 9300 w/internal bluetooth and a inspiron 1200 with no bluetooth, use the usb bluetooth reciever. I switch the bluetooth microsoft keyboard and mouse frequently.

So my issue is if I switch from the 9300 to the 1200 and back. I have to remove the saved peripherals from the computer and reconnect them to the individual computer I want to use the desktop set on. It only takes about 2-3 minutes, but its a pain and if anyone has a solution, please help!

I too just bought this keyboard and mouse, and had the same problem and was about to take it back until I saw this thread, now it works great. This forum is the best I have found, I used to use Dell forum all the time but they are not the same anymore, here I find all my answers.
Keep up the good work!
