Z80 / A2K BIOS Issue and HDD Issue

Hello!

I have an A2K that is about 2 weeks old now. Everything is going great with it, except, occasionally, the video driver crashes. I do have one odd thing with it, though. I have *never* seen a BIOS POST screen on this machine. It boots to a black screen and immediately into Windows. Am I missing something here?

Also, I have been unable to remove the hard drive from the machine. Is it held in by something other than the two screws on the bottom of the chassis?

The bios can be set to display POST information on the LCD, external monitor, or both. If you don't get an animated ASUS logo it's probably set to the former. Try F2 and see if the bios doesn't show up.

Also there should be three screws holding the HD drawer. The last one by the battery latch.

Memory Access

Hey, that third screw did the trick. and yes, the F2 also worked. Thanks.

One more dumb question. How does one get access to the memory? Do I really need to take *all* the screws out of the bottom, including those under the battery?

Thanks again.

There should be a a hole that's slightly different than the others at the right speaker cover. Gently insert a paperclip there and slide the cover to the left before lifting it up. Now flip the keyboard over along the axis of the palmrest and leave it upside down there. Be careful about the connector cable. Might want to put a book or something in front of the computer for extra support.

The two metal covers the are now exposed are for the RAM and mini-PCI. Easy as pie.
