Ripped of by Dell?... Do I return my i9300?...

Thread Starter
I only received my i9300 last week from Dell (ordered about 3 weeks ago) At the time I ordered it they were doing a "double memory" offer, so ordering 1Gb of Ram, I expected my system to have 2Gb...

I've also just been on-line and built the same system I ordered 3 weeks ago, to find now it's £200 ($350) cheaper!... That's a lot of money in just 3 weeks.

Now I'm thinking do I return it and re-order the same system?... I know it might sound petty, but £200 is a lot of money to me and I feel I have also been misled with the double memory offer.

Any advice appreciated,
Cinders.

Do what you go to do.

There is no shame in looking for the best buy.

I agree with going for the best deal and your right .. $350 is a bit of money to just ignore .. Thats several upgrades of accessories and more than covers the cost of 2 gigs ram on newegg ..

I don't see how you were misled on the memory thou .. When selecting the memory you had to select the line that actually FREE UPGRADE .. Kinda like what they have on the M70 right now.

Presumably 3 weeks ago you were happy with the offer you got. If the prices had gone up since, you'd now be ecstatic that you got a great deal. Instead, because the price have come down, you think Dell have ripped you off.....

Nobody forced you to buy what you thought at the time was a good deal. Sending the laptop back, when there is nothing wrong with it, to "steal back" $350 is highly immoral in my opinion. What hapens if the price goes down again - are you going to send the re-ordered laptop back too?

Dell does offer some Price Protection .. If the price of a system changes more than a certain amount within your alloted return period you can request a price adjustment to you system to get the new price .. This help Dell from having to accept returns ..

I agree with DJB, do what you must to get the best deal. Money is money my friend.

Then keep doing it every time the price drops, because you will never be happy.

I've just spoken to Dell. They've offered to refund me the difference if I keep my order...

What can I say?... Thumbs up for Dell!

Woot!

Gimme a break. There's nothing worse than buying something and seeing it a few days later a lot cheaper. If it's just a little cheaper, it's no bigger. - In this case, if it was $50 maybe $100 I would not have a problem, but $350 - yeah, I'd definitely have a problem.

Nice one, glad you got the dilemma solved. Kudos to Planet-Ed.

Many electronic stores will not only offer price protection for 30 days after your purchase they will also offer to match competitor's sales prices on your item after you have purchased it for 30 days. I just had this happen with an external DVD burner.

I agree, but at the time you must have thought the price was acceptable. It's easy to torture yourself with hindsight....a bit like a bet that "you were going to put on", but didn't which then came in.

It's entirely ethical to ring Dell up and ask them what happened to the price....but that is different from pretending there is something wrong with the laptop and sending it back just so you can rebuy it cheaper.

does this work with systems matched with coupons?
i tried to do a price match-guarantee and was told that because i used an online coupon, the same policy does not apply and therefore i was told to return and re-purchase.....don't know if that is still the policy today? This was about 6 months ago
post #18 of 18
^^^ Yup, heard it's the same policy. Someone just tried to do it with the 35% Coupon release a couple days ago.

The thing is, you can see the arguments for and against from Dell's point of view.

But it's real simple, the 35% Coupon lasts for about a day, so you basically have to be there with your C/C ready to make the purchase and I bet a lot of people just miss it, or their C/C can't take the pounding etc.etc.

From Dell's point of view, I would do the same thing.
