In the article they said the users of the new line will get "white glove" service. I am thinking the white glove service is a call center that speaks english.

What call center are you calling that doesn't speak English? Every call center I've called has spoken English. Sure, they may have accents, but they do speak English. I would be kind of suspicious if some call center guy started speaking some foreign language to me.

oh, sorry I am a newbie and for some reason people don't understand when newbies are being sarcastic and joking. they all speak english, but not very well. Lately I have also noticed its not so much the accent as much as they don't talk very loud. If they would talk louder it would be alot better.

Also, a couple years ago for like 6-7 calls over a 2 week period I got a call center in Texas, do they still have that, it was mostly rednecks that answered.

The experience I've had with overseas tech support is that they speak english much better than most of the American support. They are also much more polite and work just as hard to resolve my problem.

Well, now that we've established that the support reps speak English, let's work on the fact that people from Texas are rednecks. I am from Texas, and it's not fair to say that people from Texas are rednecks.

Anyway, I like foreign support way better than American. The Americans just don't care. At least the foreigners care about their job.

The people I talked to were rednecks. I had conversations with them about rednecks and computers. I am a redneck, I have a Confederate Flag in my room I carry a gun in my truck, I ride 4 wheelers, I listen to country music, there is nothing wrong with rednecks and I know not all people from texas are rednecks, I was just stating that rednecks answered my calls

Does dell have a new thin and light coming up?

To replace the D610. Or will that be in the new 'lexus' range?
Well, if the Lexus line is just above the others I'm guessing that maybe they'll have full blown P4 chips maybe instead of the PMs? And if there were to be a 19" screen unit the obvious choice would be in the Lexus line. Home center systems are catching on. Maybe something along that line?

Also they mentioned something about white glove treatment so the warranty/service will be a notch above what they already offer I'm guessing.

Someone asked why 19"? For those that want a desktop replacement type unit obviously. More mobile than desktop but not as easy to lug around as a 14". Laptops are outselling desktops now so Dell is trying to capitalize on that.

If it causes the prices of the lesser laptops to drop some then so much the better IMO.

That's a really good point. Maybe something along the lines of the Qosmio line.

Yeah I think the thing is, with a large enough monitor, people who want to spend that much might choose a laptop over a desktop because it is simpler. The laptop is equivalent to an all in one computer system, so you don't have to worry about plugging in keyboards, monitors, etc. While this might seem unreasonable, there are probably a lot of general users who don't understand how to properly set up a desktop system. A laptop is basically ready out of the box. Plus who doesn't like having less cables? It's simple, looks sleek, easy to set up and can be moved to say a different room if needed. Aside from the price difference, I could see a 19" laptop being useful for people who won't be moving it around much anyways.

I agree. I think a 19" would be great. Also, it's human nature to want more than your peers and I think that will be 1 big reason they will sell. Example, like I said in a post before I am a redneck and my friends used to say, a Crew Cab truck on 44" tires was too big, now some have the Ford F-650's on 49" tires and everyone loves it. It sounds too big at first, but once you use it and see the product you realize the R&D team at these companies know what they are doing. Also being in Florida I would be more likely to choose a 19" laptop over a desktop due to the hurricanes, they are much smaller to "hide" from the elements if my roof blows off and I can use it as a dvd player while the power is out.

If so, then Dell would have just made the stupidest decision ever. The reason they stopped using the P4 chips in laptops was because the P4 chips drained battery like no other and ran very hot. PMs are just as powerful, but they save battery, and they also run cooler than P4s. My guess is that they will use more powerful PMs, and they will use the Yonah processors. In other words, they will use dual core PMs.

"Home center systems are catching on. Maybe something along that line?'
That could be possible.

Like I said, I was guessing. It'll have to offer something the lesser lines wont. Either a more powerful M chip or P chip. Of course the M chip would be a better solution since they run cooler and less voltage. We'll have to wait and see.

F4Dell, just curious, are you a Dell employee/shareholder? Seems everytime someone posts something even remotely negative about Dell-anything, you get pretty vocal. I am NOT trying to start something, just sincerely curious is all.

No, I'm not a Dell employee. No, I don't hold any stock in Dell either. To be honest, I wouldn't buy stock in Dell at all. It's not that high, and the prices don't change enough to make any serious money. I just don't like people saying unecessary things that are not true, especially when they're about the Indian people, whom I will proudly say I am a part of. I'm also a proud resident of Texas, and technically, I am American and Texan. I know somebody will suggest that I have a good experience with Customer Support because I am Indian and I can understand them and whatnot, but I'll tell you right now, I was born and raised in Texas. That's about as far away from India as you can get.

IF dell is going to offer a new line worth even looking at, it would have to be made of all magnesium alloy like the latitudes, have the keyboard of an IBM thinkpad and the lcd panel of a Fujitsu lifebook and ofcourse a great graphics card which is already available on my 9300. If the new line doesnt incorporate features as mentioned above, there would be little sense in investing the extra dough for sure!! (on a laptop that is)

You know I wondered the same thing when I bought my 9300 but after having it I couldnt imagine going with a smaller laptop screen, that Said, if there was a 19 inch lappy like the 9300, with a numeric keypad maybe?? it would indeed be tempting.
At first out of the box my system seemed huge, but a few days later, no big deal at all.

I was just messing around with some numbers this evening, and comparing the dimensions of the 16:10 aspect Inspiron 9300 to the 4:3 aspect Toshiba M60 (also 17").

The 9300 is 394 x 288 x 40.6mm
The M60 is 394 x 280.3 x 37mm

Going by the minimum clearances between the screen and overall dimensions, i reckon it would be possible to squeeze a 4:3 aspect 19" screen in a 410mm x 310mm notebook. So you would basically be looking at an extra centimetre all the way around the 9300.

For a 19" widescreen version, i'd say you'd need 435mm x 280mm, so about 2 centimetres added to each side of the 9300.

i think that people will say 19" is not a good idea or whatnots, but when it eventually comes out, people will be like ooh and aah... and they'll buy it. also i believe the 19" lcds are the way to go in the future since there'll be the dual core yonahs coming and the sli. So in order to make a bigger chasis for their notebooks, it'll be inevitable that the screens go up accordingly.

when you put it that way, a 19 inch starts to make sense though I find my 17 inches to be more than adequate, no pun intended.
