Constant clicking noise on new Acer Aspire 3000

Hi Guys,

Newbie here. I've tried searching for any threads related to this problem and also even on amdmb and hardwarezone too but nothing.

Basically I'm not sure if this might be normal or not but from the hard drive area this computer is constantly making a "click-clock" noise. It almost does it periodically ever 1-2 seconds. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

I received this reply from somebody else but not sure what "RIP" stands for nor do I have any molex connectors or know what those things are. Does anyone else have any ideas???? I just bought the thing about a week ago from Circuit city but people at these types of forums know a lot more than most of those guys do.

Quote:
Think the HDD is going to RIP, try changing to another power molex connector to double check the problem, if after changing power molex the problem persist then the HDD is confirm faulty hence prepare to send in for warranty claim if still under warranty.

hes saying you hard drive is dieing "rip" = "Rest In Peace" is my guess

maybe take advantage of the warranty and return for a new 1.. hard to understand wut click sounds are... make sure it is not the optical drive or the batteries first by using AC only with battery unplugged and no disc in optical drive.. if it still happens.. it is most likely the HD

Thanks for the replies guys. I took it back to Circuit and of course the guy that looked at it (guy from computer sales dept., not the guy from the IQ stand who was extremely courteous and helpful) said it sounded like normal hard drive activity to him, but since it was within the 14 days he didn't object to an exchange.

The new one is not making this noise from the HDD plus Powernow is actually working now. I'm glad I took it back instead of waiting a few more weeks and having it conk out only to have to deal with Acer. Thanks guys!
