I am extremely close to buying a 9300... just one or two questions about the screen

Hi, I'm just about to close the deal on an i9300, here are the specs:

1.6 Ghtz Processor
TV Tuner
1 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce Go6800
80 GB HD

The only thing that is making me even a little bit hessitant about buying this computer is osme of the controversy about the screen. My questions are: What is the major difference between the XGA+ Display and the UXGA display? Is the latter a must if one is going to buy this computer? Are the sparkles/light-leak more prevelant on the less expensive one? And just how bad are the sparkles/light-leak?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I have the LG UXGA, and I have absolutely no problems. It's beautiful. I don't know if it's a must, but I watch alot of DVDs and are going to be getting into some video editing and Photoshop during college, so I picked the better screen. I think the only difference between the XGA+ and the UXGA is the resolution, anyone can correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't seen an XGA+, but I absolutely love my UXGA

Good luck on your purchase.

The UXGA screen also has a glossy coating. I also have the LG screen with no sparkles. The light leakage has gone away with time.

As far as I know, the XGA screen does not have sparkles.

Some LG XGA+ screens had sparkle (mine did) but from what I've been hearing lately most screens shipping don't have any sparkle (both LG and Samsung) or else you'd still be hearing massive amounts of complaints. I haven't even heard that word for like 2 months.

The XGA+ screen is beautiful as well. The glossy coating looks nice, but the lower native resolution works for me and there is no background reflections.

XGA here and love it. UXGA was just too small for my eyes, It made my head hurt.

I think the screen thing is overblown. I have the Samsung and yeah you can see light, but I can see it on everything LCD I have (other laptop, 26" LCD TV and 19" flat panel). I think everyone here talks too much about it and it just makes you see it more. I really wish I never would've even heard of it before actually. Now I notice the not so perfection I never noticed before..

oops, I forgot the actual question. It's all in the resolution. If you like to crank up your games and watch DVD's, then yeah, the resolution matters. If you're just going to surf the web and listen to music, then it doesn't make much sense. It also allows you to easily see two pages, you don't know how nice that is until you get used to it (or having two or three monitors like I have at work)..

My i9300 has the WXGA 1440X900 screen, I play games and watch movies on it with no problems at all. I did not want to go with the WUXGA screen cause the resolution would not suited me as I normally use a desktop at 1024X768 anyway and the higher screen res would have been useless.

The colors and blacks look good, especially the blacks are black not charcoal or grey they are dark. Image is sharp and my games look amazing on this (HL2, Doom3, EQ2 and Wow) all of em run nice on this.
