Reformatting/Installing winXP Problem

Thread Starter
I recently had to reformat my computer, and have run into a problem when installing windows. I can install WinXP alright, but once I have rebooted after reinstalling and you have to set up windows, the program freezes. (Right when it says "Let's spend a few minutes setting up winXP") When I power off my computer and restart, come to a blue/green screen and cannot log on or start explorer.

Anyone else experienced this, or know how to fix it?

I am running the latest BIOS version and am using XP Pro.

If you are using any kind of USB device (mouse, external keyboard) remove it.

Consider installing windows from the harddrive instead of teh cd.

To do this, though, you need to format the drive with a win98 floppy as fat32 then convert later

Get a bootdisk here:

(get this one: Boot Disk Essentials)

Copy the entire i386 directory from the cd to the harddrive using xcopy

at a:\> prompt type
smartdrv
c:
md i386
xcopy *.* d:\i386 c:\i386

wait as all copy, then

cd i386

then winnt.exe

sit back
