Was wondering if you guys could inspect my z70v build, and answer some questions about specifications.

From ISNTC.com
Processor: Pentium-M 730 2MB 533 FSB 1.6GHz (219 Dollars)

Thermal Solution: Arctic 5 Silver (5.00)

HD: Seagate 80GB/8MB (149.00 Dollars)
Or 105.00 SAMSUNG Spinpoint M MP0804H 80GB 5400 RPM 8MB
Is it a huge problem installing your own HD?

1750.00 (With student cut) If I get everything listed from ISNTC.com and nothing from newegg.
1825.00 If I do so and get the 6.8-8.5 Hour battery.

1550 (With student cut) If I get everything I can from Newegg.
1640.00 if I do so and get the 6.8-8.5 hour battery.

Can I get your guys opinion, am I missing anything, going to have any problems installing? Etc, thanks!

What do I look for in a CD drive that indicates it's compact laptop swappable?

i dont think u get a student discount from istnc if its barebones. as for installing ur own hd and ram, there's a sticky in the asus forum that has a bunch of pics and stuff showing where to install them and how hard they are to get to.

why do you need 2 gigs of ram? and as for no OS, you either need to own a retail copy of XP that isnt being used on another computer, or just use linux

what about shady xp? And is there any other places I can look to see what they offer in terms of z70 prices?

there's proportable, geared2play, discountlaptops, etc there's a bunch. look around. however, only istnc and i think geared2play offer options to include no memory or hd i think.
