W3V heat issues

Hello, I assume this is a platitudinal question by now, but I havn't been able to find that much info on it - other than that there is a heat issue..... What is the heat issue with the W3V? Is it running hotter than other notebooks, or is there just not as much shielding between the palm rest and the heat source? Is the heat problem merely a discomfort to one's hand (lap, etc.), or does it get hot enough to damage the components? What kind of temperatures are W3V owners getting?
Thanks very much

We have owned the W3V for little over a month now...

It does run a little warm for a Centrino Notebook, but I have used it without discomfort.
The palm rest does not get hot during use, just warm air blows from the vent.

CPU Temp. [Avg] ~ 60 Degrees Celsius

It's probably very similar to the W3N, which I happen to own. It doesn't get that hot, really. Even though heat isn't much of an issue, I decided to undervolt my CPU. There's no risk of damaging the hardware by doing so and the increased battery life and less noisy operation seemed like nice benefits. Results?

Before:

Idle CPU temp: 47-50C
Load CPU temp: 66-68C

After:

Idle CPU temp: 44-48C
Load CPU temp: 60-62C

Nice and cool (well, everything is relative...). BTW, the CPU is a 1.7GHz Dothan. Hope this helps somewhat!

I dont find the heat very annoying (only a little bit, but I dont actually put it on my lap), but it does get pretty warm, blows out warm air, and the bottom (under HDD) gets a little hot.

I dont believe the heat should cause any type of hardware damage, but it gets pretty close..

After playing Guild Wars for a few solid hours, I once noticed my HDD was 54 degrees C and system temp around 70. According to Hitachi, the temperature shoudnt go over 55 (at least 55 is the top end of what they call "ambient operating temperature")

I imagine the HD will never get any hotter than that, since gaming (especially for hours) will make the laptop hotter than doing anything else, and the HD is still within specs.

I still highly recommend the W3V despite the heat, and the vertical viewing angle of the otherwise excellent screen (in my opinion those are the only two real problems).

If I was buying my laptop today, I'd still get it, even more so now with the $200 rebate and extra 3rd year warranty (if you're in the US)

Has anyone used AS5 to decrease temps?
