knoppix on sager 4060 (and I assume 4760)

I just got a shiny new sager 4060 w/no OS and I went to boot up knoppix on it. No go. I tried failsafe, expert, screen=1440x900, screen=1280x1024 and every combination thereof. I went into the BIOS to try to enable HT but as I expected, mine has no HT.

In short, I did everything I could find in these forums to do. Anyone got a clue to share?

It boots up to the LILO menu and then it says "loading vmlinuz.... loading miniroot.gz...." and then I get a blank black screen and the cd spins down.

Using knoppix 3.3 EN.

I downloaded the debian sarge netinst. It got as far as allowing me to partition the disk and then it hangs with a blank blue screen with a little white bar on the bottom.

I'm starting to suspect hardware defect. Anyone have some suggestion as to how to check the hardware? I need a baseline here.

partitions...

IS it pre win XP installed ? Do you have ntfs partition on the drive ? If so, get a win98 floppy dos disk, bot under dos, erase the partitions using fdisk, issue fdisk /MBR just to make sure boot sector is clean, once all partition are wiped, try again.

It was not pre-NT installed. It was no-OS. I don't have any win98 or NT disks to test with. I'm going to root around on the internet to see if I can find a good rescue disk to use to check out the hardware. Right now it acts like there's some problem with the HD. I got the sarge netinst to get past the secondary boot stage and claim a successful install but when I reboot it gets to the last ..... of loading the kernel and just hangs.

I still need some kind of baseline. I guess that's the downside to getting a no-OS machine.

Do you have Hyperthreading disabled in the BIOS?

I couldn't get Knoppix to boot on my 5670 with HT disabled. As soon as I enabled it everything worked fine.

Knoppix.net has a laptop forum that you might want to check out.

Good Luck

I guess I read your first post way too quickly. Sorry. I completely missed that you already checked HT.
